I think it is clear that God does speak to people in dreams. Not only from practical experience, but from the example of scripture. Beginning with Abimelech (Genesis 20:3-7), Jacob (Genesis 28:11-16, 31:9-13) and Laban (Genesis 31:23-24), dreams are clearly a method of communication God used in the book of Genesis. Of course, there is also the patrairch Joseph, who serves as the primary person to learn from regarding dreams in the Bible. His interactions with dreams from Genesis 37 through 41 are not only encouraging but instructive as he actually explains the interpretation process as well as dream content. Later, through the old testament, Solomon, Nebuchadnezzar and Daniel also are examples of people to whom God spoke through dreams.
And it doesn't just stop with patriarchs and prophets. In the new testament, God used dreams to speak to Jesus' earthly parents no less than 4 times in Matthew 1 and 2 to give direction regarding what to do and where to go. This also happened to the Magi in Matthew 2 and Pilates wife in Matthew 27. What is clear by the New and Old Testament examples is that no one who recieved a dream thought it odd or even considered the possibility it wasn't an important message. In every single case, the dreamers or interpretters assume dreams not only have importance, but likely a divine origin.
My wife and I have had dreams that have helped us in times of difficulty and others in times of decision or pain. In one case, we had a clear dream of meeting a specific person regarding an event I was planning. Later in that year, that person (whom I didn't know and hadn't met before) and I met and I did have them come to the event I was in charge of. It seemed clear to me that it was one of the ways God chose to confirm His direction.
In my study of scripture, here are some interpretive notes about dreams that I found
1. Wait on God- right interpretations come from Him only—Genesis 40:8 Then they said to him, "We have had a dream and there is no one to interpret it." Then Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, please."
2. Repetition in a dream means that the message is more certain and more expedient. Genesis 41:32 "Now as for the repeating of the dream to Pharaoh twice, it means that the matter is determined by God, and God will quickly bring it about.
3. Take time to listen to what the Lord says about dreams. Don’t make a hasty interpretation. Ecclesiastes 5:1-4 Guard your steps as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know they are doing evil. Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few. For the dream comes through much effort and the voice of a fool through many words. When you make a vow to God, do not be late in paying it; for He takes no delight in fools. Pay what you vow!
4. Obey God and His Word first, before your dreams - Ecclesiastes 5:6-7 Do not let your speech cause you to sin and do not say in the presence of the messenger of God that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry on account of your voice and destroy the work of your hands? For in many dreams and in many words there is emptiness. Rather, fear God.
5. Don’t take the dreams and words of others and relate them as your own- Jeremiah 23:25-32 "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy falsely in My name, saying, 'I had a dream, I had a dream!' How long? Is there anything in the hearts of the prophets who prophesy falsehood, even these prophets of the deception of their own heart, who intend to make My people forget My name by their dreams which they relate to one another, just as their fathers forgot My name because of Baal? The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?" declares the LORD. "Is not My word like fire?" declares the LORD, "and like a hammer which shatters a rock? Therefore behold, I am against the prophets," declares the LORD, "who steal My words from each other. Behold, I am against the prophets," declares the LORD, "who use their tongues and declare, 'The Lord declares.' "Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams," declares the LORD, "and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit," declares the LORD.
General scriptural instruction on dreams
1. When God’s spirit is poured out, prophecy and dreams can be expected- Joel 2:28-29 It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
I hope that helps..

Dreams are just one way God answers your prayers as well as lterature that might come across your desk, the words from a new aquaintance and more. I once had a condition and and the answer was in an herb book, when I awoke, I flipped throught the pages untill I recognized the page and made the formula and was cured.

Yes, God sends us messages in our dreams. The message is to prepare us for what will come, but, only if we believe.
God sent me dreams of my mother and my father dying in the same year, nine months apart on the same date, including the hour my mother and father would die. My mother died at 3:20 pm on Jan., 01, 1990. buried on Jan 6, 1990. My father died at 3:20 am on Sept 1, 1990, buried on Sept 06, 1990. Read the story in the bible about Moses (old testment). Moses visioned everything that God had planned for him. Don't consider your dreams as dreams, consider them visions and you won't have to wonder if what you vision while sleeping will come true. Also, be aware that some dreams are not always pleasant, but, just the same they are messages from God.

I do believe that God sends messages through people, places, things, circumstances, accidents, dreams, etc. I am a living witness that God reveals things to me in my dreams. I believe in God, I love God, and I trust Him. There has been so many times that I can't think of any one dream right now. God bless you. Stay humble and submissive to the Holy Spirit.

Things are not so easy. You wanted to hear that answer and it came to you. Dreams are due to our thoughts, our feeling... with all sort of things that happened during a day or a week. God do not make direct contact with us... we will be exterminated if such could be. God only contact us by means of our heart... not speaking or writing... and we need a pure heart for that... if your heart is so pure... maybe that is a case.

God communicates with us in many ways, we just have to take the time to listen. It might be in a dream (day or sleep), or in the next TV show or movie you watch, the next magazine or book you read, the next person you meet, or maybe even the next answer you get on Yahoo! Answers.

Yes, God does speak to us. Whether in our conscience or supconscience state. It is our ability to recognize it and act upon it that is important. It seems that you did just that and look what a wonderful thing happened! Just don't hope to go to church, GO. He deserves praise and thankfulness for the blessing He has given you both.

I believe that the Supreme Being(otherwise known as God, ;)) has communicated a message to me in my dreams.
I dreamed that my dad and grandmother had a fight, and then I looked around and she was gone, I asked where she was and my dad said she was outside. I asked him what she was doing outside and he said she's dead. Well, in real life my dad and grandmother had been having conflicts, and I 'interpret' that dream to mean that if we keep fighting each other, we will end up dead.

Dreams are just leftover thoughts you were thinking in the subconscience part of your brain. Those thoughts then are expressed while you sleep. It does not have anything to do with God.

Yes he can. He can send: warnings, helpings... and anything you want he can just give you mesages to help you through a problem or he can help you learn how to get through problems because there is a wonderful power that God has and it's LOVE.
Thanks,
Mike S.
