We are thinking about getting a puppy soon, and we're not sure what breed we should get. We know we want a mix, though.

We want a lap dog. Not small enough to fit into a purse or anything, but small enough to sit up on the couch with us or sleep between us in bed.

We have three children, the youngest being two, so it has to be good with kids. We also don't want a worker dog. We just want a lay-around-and-relax type of dog who can snuggle, but still knows how to play.

We had a golden retriever, and she was the best dog you could ask for, but she had so many health issues and allergies that we could barely keep up with her. She died from cancer last November, and we don't want to go through that again. However, our black lab desperately needs a playmate!

Basically, we want a generally healthy, low-maintenance, kid-friendly pooch who is loveable and snuggly!

I think a beagle or basset mix would be good for you, they are fairly independent but like to cuddle, they are loyal pets and usually good with children. they are pretty short haired pups too so they a re low maintenance. Now you said you want to get a puppy but you could keep up with your last dog... have you considered getting a little bit older dog say 6-12 months old thats partially or completely trained, it would be alot less work. Make sure when you go to pick out the dog the whole family (including your lab)goes and can get along with and agree on the pet.

A mix dog is a good choice for a dog.Usually they dont have the same types of problems as a pure blood.breeding pure sometimes is too pure and weakens the line.A mix doesnt have to worry about these traits.I would also suggest a dog that will reach about 20 lbs or so for play.Especially with a 2 year old.Too small a dog can get the pet injured .Always monitor your kids play and teach them not to pull hair ears tail or anything that will hurt your pet.Make sure they learn respect for the animal. Then you will have a happy playful dog that wont run from your kids

Think about a terrier - they are generally healthy and long lived. They have a great sense of fun and generally get on well with kids - they have heaps of energy for play. They also like to be with people and are happy to share the sofa or bed - and most don't take up too much room. Some breeds of terriers can be snappy and some will want to be top dog, so be a bit choosy. We have had x-bred terriers for almost 20 years and they have been great friends.

DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS PETS DIE.

you should go to the shelter and adopt a dog that is otherwise going to be put to sleep because he doesnt have a home. color and breed shouldnt matter as long as the temperment is good and he/she is is needing a loving home. it sounds like you have a good family and you should save a life and teach your kids a valuable lesson about saving/helping those pets that need our help the most. breeder's wont stop breeding and shelters wont stop needing our help. 20 million puppies and kittens are put to sleep every year because they have no home. think about all those babies that have to die because the only thing they did worong was be born into an over populated world.
PLEASE ADOPT A HOMELESS DOG.

A beagle might be good. They are a medium size dog that likes children. They get along with other dogs but they can be a little stubborn at times. They do tend to wander off on scent trail but if your looking for a medium size dog this breed of dog might be good for your family.

go to www.dogbreedinfo.com

They have a quiz on their site that allows you to answer questions about your living arrangements, lifestyle, and what your looking for in a dog. Then a list of appropriate breeds pops up and gives you more in depth info on each of those breeds. Then you can pick a mix from petfinder.com with some of the breeds from your list. Good luck!

you should get a shih tzu because they are friendly, lovable dogs that like to sit on the couch beside you or sleep next to you in bed at night and when you go out for the day and leave them alone and then come home they will jump up at you because they are so glad to see you.

Get some kind of Chihuahua mix if a mix is what you want. A Chihuahua is the ultimate lap dog.

My favorite breed is yorkie, but if you want a mix you should probably check out maltipoos ( maltese and poodle mix). Best of LucK!
