Because those ******* in office can't make money off of it. If they could, they would be selling it like crazy. I would love it if they legalized weed.

And weed is NOT A PATHWAY DRUG. Its one of those myths they have like "weed makes you lazy".

Potheads UNITE!

The government makes more money on it being illegal than they would if they legalized it.The only thing I know is that you have a slower reaction time than you would f you where straight. In World War I , they used pot stalks to make rope on their boats. That is why everyone came to know that you could get high on it because one of the boats caught fire and everyone got high off it.It was not illegal until the 60's when everyone would get high and they made it illegal. Now if it was bad for you ,would the government be making a medicine out of pot for cancer patients? It is all about control in the USA.They really control what we even do ion our own homes and vehicles. It is now that some people do go to the harder drugs and start out with pot.I have smoked pot a couple of times but it is not for me,but I do have friends that smoke pot and they are no different than anyone else.I would rather drive by a person that is high on pot than a drunk driver. This is just my opinion.

pot is not illegal b/c it is worse than alcohol or ciggerettes it is illegal for 3 reasons.
1. it is not taxable and controllable.
2. it has too many uses
3. it is a widely used and therefore will help keep an illegal element and prison system runnning.

1. before the marijauna tax act cannibis was widely used it grew wild in practicaclly every state. it could be grown inexpensively and not traced. the government was looseing money on a taxble product.
2. Cannibis has many uses not only as a food source rich in vitamins and minerals but also as a holistic herb for medical uses which doesn't interact with many drugs I and many people I know who were on anti dpressants or haveing problems with anyrexia, pain or insomnia who couldn't take big pharmaceutical medicines b/c of bad drug interactions withthe meds they already were on and were told off the record by doctors to smoke some weed. my psychologist told me this after I was on an MAOI and had insomnia from it. so I light a joint and was able to sleep.this is big competition for large pharmacuetical companies.the oil industry also does not want it legalzed not only b/c it can be used for rope *most of the first ships to the US had hemp rope) but also b/c it can be used to make a material as strong as many plastics w/o useing oil. paper can be made useing cannibis as well our constitution and declaration of independance were written on hemp. this threatens the logging industry. hemp clothing can come in as varied types of fbric as something as coarse as a hemp necklace in the hipie shop to a material as fine as silk. this treatenedt he cotton plantations and the silk industry. starting to get the picture the list goes on and on.
the 3rd reason is if a widely used substance is made illegal people will still use it if weed were legalized drug use crime prison populations would go down*prisonsowned by the wonderful people who gave you 9/11 and war on terror* ther ewould be less reason to has such a police state without a government manufactured war on drugs which has only brought more drugs and crime into the country look at amsterdam thier crome rate has tumbled since weeed was legalized and other drugs were decriminalized. Weed is not a gateway drug the only reason many people saythis is b/c most people who use other drugs use weed. and it is total BS b/c the same people use ciggerettes and alcohol but I know of hundred to thousands of people who use only marijauna and don't drink alcohol or smoke ciggerettes and this dwarfs the number of people who smoke and drink but only use marijauna and no other illegal drugs.
all the antimarijuana commercials are pure propaganda just like reefer madness was and they have not scientific basis. watch the documentary grass for a good discussion on the history of marijuana in america.

Little known fact about people who smoke weed : even george Washington smoked it check out the last reference "when all drugs were legal there wasn't a drug problem"

People have been arguing this for YEARS and, the only reason that anybody can figure out is, because there is too much money to be made and the government can't effectively control it so, it's illegal. Cigarettes aren't illegal either but, notice the "tax stamp" on every pack ? Alcohol isn't "illegal either but, more people FIGHT, KILL SOMEONE, HAVE ACCIDENTS, OR KILL THEMSELVES while under the influence of alcohol, where as, people who get high, just want to relax, watch tv, listen to music, be creative, have sex, and / or eat everything in sight and then, when they come down, sleep. There's NO good arguement for the ban on "pot" except the government's own greediness and ignorance.

I completely agree with you. Cigarettes are way worse. Actually, I read something, that scientists have concluded that marijuana doesn't cause lung cancer. Whatever. I don't know how true that is. I'd love to believe it. I know smoking anything isn't good. I don't smoke cigarettes, just the green, but I know I'll definitely be quitting whenever I get pregnant (someday.) I love to smoke the stuff... everyday. It's legal in Denver, Colorado, but it's only a city law. You can hold up to an ounce if there's no intent to sell, or something. But I bet staties are always sitting right outside the town line, waiting to bust someone. If it were legal though, all hell would break loose... and the **** would be taxed, or something. Or it would never be as good as it can/should be.

Because it cuts in on the tax profits of other taxable recreational drugs, tobacco and alcohol. They haven't figured a way to keep people from growing it as a common herb. The government can't monopolize pot. If pot were legal farmers would convert to growing the more profitalble cannibus, there would be a food shortage. People would take pot breaks at work.
People would become liberalized and the republicans would loss their political base.

My guess is that if it were legal then there would be an outbreak of violence by the people currently controlling the drug market. After all, who would make all of the money then?? The government would tax the crap out of it, and the drug runners would have no reason to traffic drugs anymore. This would make a lot of people angry, and I don't think the government really knows how to handle this situation. You would have angry drug traffickers on one hand, and angry anti drug activists on the other. Good ole rock and a hard place situation.

More personal suggestion would be to legalize it. After all it is a natural substance grown in the wild, and nothing synthetic is added to it. Cigs have over 300 chemicals in them, including one to addict you even more so than herione. Alcohol is a synthetic, as well as all of the other glamour drugs such as crack, coke, meth, lsd, etc. I guess the governement will know the real answer to that question, but this is my point of view on it.

you want to know why is pot illegal, it's just because you don't live in Canada. The doctor can prescribe pot for some sickness, but if you want some of that you go see the doctor and say that you have some sickness like Multiples sclerosis or think what you want and they gonna prescribe you some pot for medication.
Wow, Canadian are cool man........

In the 1930s articles were published with stories stating during the 1920s and 1930s some children solemnly warned in advance that marijuana would madden them and cause them to commit the most awful crimes, including crimes of violence, really did lose self-control and commit such crimes thereafter when they smoked marijuana. these stories were certainly exaggerated, but used to scare americans into agreeing to make federal laws outlawing marijuana.

whether you like or dislike marijuana, one thing is true: america would highly benefit from the legalization of marijuana. the amount of taxes placed on cigarettes could also be placed on marijuana. not only that, but it would free up our jail system. there are too many people incarcerated for drug-related charges. tax-payers pay to keep these people in jails and prisons. i'm not defending the use of it, but think about the obvious. besides, it is much less harmful than toxious cigarettes.

It was outlawed when Harry Anslinger convinced congress(and white america) that black males were using it in jazz clubs to seduce white women(of course the alcohol had nothing to do with it,), he was convinced that no white woman would have a relationship with a black man unless under the influence of some evil substance(except alcohol), He convinced everyone that marijuana was used by blacks and hispanics and when under it's influence they lust after white women and show disrespect towards white men...The American Medical Assoc. was against outlawing it but only agreed after Anslinger started having licenses suspended of physicians that disagreed with him,...Henry Ford was big believer in the industrial applications of hemp.....marijuana is far less harmful to the body than alcohol or tobacco, in fact, more people died from aspirin last year than all the recorded marijuana deaths in all of history(that would be 0, there has never been a case of a person dying from smoking marijuana)

It make you OK with being bored.( quote from south park) It does have its benefits, nausea, PMS, head ache. I think its illegal because like many drugs, people abuse it an its benefits don't out way the health risks it promotes. Plus, I seriously doubt a cop is going to waste their time arresting someone who is using it for medicinal purposes. Even if it was legal, there would be limits on the amount of THC, and you'd still buy it on the black market.
