I prefer if you have a rough breakdown (e.g. 40% of your airfare goes to..., 30% goes to..., etc.) since I know that jet fuel is a big part of the airline ticket.

Airline tickets are used to pay for:
1) Fuel
2) Maintenance/upgrade of plane and associated equipment/supplies
3) Fees for airport(s) use and associated taxes and costs
4) Ground crew: salary, benefits, training
5) Flight crew: salary, benefits, training, housing and food allowance at rest stops
6) Insurance
7) Marketing and advertising
8) Food and beverage service (note: many airlines now offer meals for an additional cost to passenger instead of including it as part of overall ticket cost)

Also rough breakdowns are not possible, since ticket prices are subject to competitive market conditions. So in some cases the most popular flights may be priced low, and the profit margins are made up on other flights where the airline may have less competition. Marketing costs also include the provision of "free" seats for frequent flyer award travel. Ticket prices are also variable on the same plane, depending on class of travel and conditions under which ticket was purchased (e.g., fully refundable vs. non-refundable, 30 day advance purchase vs. last minute, and so on)
