Normal is having every psychiatric disorder without any one of them being obviously dominant.

According to the merriam-webster dictionary, "normal" can mean "a : according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle b : conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern"

We discussed this in a social science class once. The consensus was, being normal means following the "norms" or rules of society, be they implicit or explicit. If you are for example going out, it would be normal to have clothes on. It is the implicit rule of most modern societies to be clothed in public. Being normal may also mean wearing a matching pair of shoes, not matching one of a pair with another of a different pair. And if you think more about it, what is normal in one society may not be normal for another. It is after all defined by the culture of the society and the period or the times. Thus it is always relative, dynamic, and ever-changing. As a point in fact, it may be normal for some cultures to show affection with a pat on the head, but for some, such an act would be construed as an insult and an offense. It is also normal to wear a pair of matching earrings, but it has also become increasingly normal to wear just one of a pair on one ear, or a mismatched pair altogether.

Hi! That is a very open ended question. Are we talking behavior here? If so it is all relative - what I may think of as being normal you may think it totally weird. Culture along with a raft of other things comes into play. In Japan it is normal for people to stand very, very close together - that is normal - in the west this would be viewed as abnormal and threatening behavior.

Nothing is normal (if you're talking about looks or material things)!!! When you ask what is normal it's like asking if the holy grail is a goblet from Jesus drank out of!!! When you talk about looks, you can't say someone is normal just because they are beautiful, because they might be "normal" looking, but they could act like psychos(sorry don't know if i spelled that right)!!!

As someone with a couple of "classification" experiences with LDs and such....I've always said, "Normal depends on who's looking!"

It's quite contextual, but there are a handful of things that most people would consider decidedly ABnormal, like murder, pedophilia, incest, etc., etc.

I also like ithinkiknow's answer above...kinda smart-alecky but funny!

There are some norms and values and traditions of religions but I have to say We are differently the same! There really is no "Normal" trait (s).

there is no definition for normal (at least there shouldn't be) because normal is what YOU are used, to not what anyone else thinks, because people have different beliefs and religons. so YOU are YOU and if anyone has a problem with it then apparently they don't know what normal is.
Thanks,

Exactly.

What's normal at a GAY BAR... is rediculous in my house.

What's normal in a MENTAL WARD... is not elsewhere...

Amongst Musicians

Amongst TRUCK DRIVERS

Amongst CAMPERS

Amongst BOATER...

The point is... NORMAL is ... what the group considers NORMAL.

And it changes with the context.
