Totally. I have often wondered this. When people started being Christians, in the Roman empire, they were treated like some crazy cult, but they were awfully persistent and very pushy in getting the word out about Jesus. The really weird thing is that there were many different ideas about how to worship Jesus, then two persisted and became Catholicism and eastern orthodoxy, and then after a while they split BACK up with the protestant reformation. How many other religions started at the same time fell by the wayside?

Yes I think Christianity is one religion that is has gotten out of control. Each and every branch of christianity thinks they are the only true faith that will get you closer to g-d. Their are even branch of the Chrisitian faith that even most conservative Christian groups would call them cults. So really though christians say they believe in the same g-d and the same messiah. They do preach different views on the bible. So really it is easy for one to get confused about christianity when there are so many churches preaching their own different view on the bible.

No. Cults usually revolve around a central figure who tries to control others for his own benefit.

Christ did not do that. He did not come here to stroke his ego, and did not make all kinds of crazy rules that put him on top in strange and unusual ways. He came here and lived a lowly, plain life and died a humiliating death without any real cause other than those that believe in who He is and why He did it might be saved.

BIG difference there.

I don't believe that Christianity is a cult that got out of control, but I do think that some of its followers/gurus have managed to turn some Christian religions into cults.

Westboro Baptist Church is a prime example. Fred Phelps is the guru of this "church," but interestingly, the congregation consists exclusively of his family members. These are the same insane cultists who run around disrupting AIDS memorial services & military funerals with their obscene hate rhetoric. For a "church" that professes to be Christian, they don't know the first thing about "love thy neighbor."

Some Christian denominations are decidedly more tolerant, liberal & undogmatic, but this is the best example of a "Christian cult" that I could think of.

in a way yes. i do not agree with the christian belief system, but i believe it was invented to keep faith and hope alive, becuase the people in the olden days looked to "god" for everything, for a good crop season, for wealth, for food, for everything, their lives revolved around christianity, it was the seemingly the only reason they lived. now-a-days i beilive that christianity is used as a way for the government to gain control of us as a whole, i mean look at our law system, its based on the christian religion, it basically gave us all the rules we have today, without the 10 comandments and other such codes, the world would be in complete and utter chaos, just total anarchy. so religion is kind of a nessisary evil, we need it so the world doesnt fall apart anymore than it already has.

The belief in Christ and living the 10 commandments as if your life depends upon it is not a cult. What happens outside of the scriptures are where cults begin.

Just a thought Question, How is that you came to that conclusion? Jesus is the son of GOD, which is the creator of all things from the beginning of ALL things, read the HOLY BIBLE not no other book, and depending on your age and intelligent, you will be set free by the renewing of your mind,

Most definitely, AND, as a non-believer, I won't waste the next 30 lines spouting scripture... unlike SOME people on here...
