Actually, if you have a craving that is too strong to ignore, give in to it.
The problem with most diets is that they are totally unrealistic and doesn't take into consideration human nature.
Basically have everything you want.... but LESS of it. Also, what works for me personally is to have several smaller meals a day (like 5 or so) than three big ones with nothing to eat in between.

cravings, hmmmm...... Try to fight of a craving by trying to do or use less a day (3 cigarettes one day, 2 cigarettes the next etc.) Another good way is try and find something different in place of the craving

imagine gave good advice.
If you are craving something, have just enough to make the craving go away.
if your craving something with a lot of carbs, it could be that your energy is a little low too, so maybe you need to take a nap or get some fresh air.

get moving - do something , work, play, etc. Your mind will take off on something else and voila ! You aren't concentrating on the craving(s)

Allow yourself just a bit of what it is you want, then distract yourself with something else you enjoy or with something that'll compel your energy in another direction.
Find something genuinely-interesting on TV (good luck) exercise or satisfy yourself with a different craving. :)
Instead of smoking, have some ice-cream and then have sex with your partner. :)

Find something else (legal of course) to occupy/clear your mind. Go to the movies, take a walk, call a friend. If you are in any type of program i.e. AA or NA, call your sponser.

Exercising works for me. Aerobics or fast walking. It gives me a good feeling about dieting/and myself and that takes care of the hunger.
