If you have no budgetary limits, you have many, many options. I would recommend the Ping G5's (if you can stand their looks) or the Mizuno Mx-900s. These are both extremely forgiving clubs that are geared toward the beginner. Expect to spend close to a thousand bucks, though.
For those on a budget, the Adams Idea OS set for men is probably the best product on the market. They are very forgiving clubs that are very good quality for a good price. The set includes wood-like hybrids for the 3 and 4 irons, iron-like hybrids for the 5 and 6 irons, and regular cavity backs for your 7-PW irons. This set can be found on eBay for $369 or mid-$400's retail.
If you are just trying out golf experimentally, then buy a set of used clubs. Make sure they have cavity backs though, because used or not, you want the most forgiving clubs as a beginner.
Finally, if you are a woman, look at the Callaway GES. This set comes with 3 irons, 3 woods, a putter, and a pretty nice, lightweight golf bag. The entire set can be had for about $200-$300. It is also available on eBay. This complete set is super-forgiving and is probably the best option for a beginning female golfer.
I'm not sure of your gender or what kind of budget you have, but the above selections should cover all the bases.
Hope this is helpful!

Check out your local want ad mags and garage sales for a decent set of clubs at no money. You'd be surprised at some of the sets wives are tired of looking at in the basement and just want them out of the house. If you put 3 or 4 hours into garage sale hunting I bet you'd get a great set with bag and pull cart for under $20. Go with a cavity back club (looks like a Callaway), take them to a pro shop and have them re-griped and you are good to go. Bet they throw in about 30 golf balls too.

I would look on the web for a set of clubs that have been slightly used. You can get a real deal on used clubs and they work just fine. I would suggest an oversize set of irons to get started. Try looking for Taylor Made Oversize Irons or Taylor Made LCG Irons. The LCG Irons (Low Center of Gravity) are sweet clubs. They swing themselves. Weighting is perfect for a beginner as it promotes a smooth swing. Good luck and hit 'em straight...

Try Adams golf clubs, top quality clubs, not Walmart junk, at a reasonably affordable price compared to the likes of Callaway and Taylor Made.
