THIS DOG HAS BITTEN BEFORE! The owner herself said so. But she will not take responsibility for the dog, or my hospital bills. Animal Control said she is criminally neglegent, but no one knows how to get her current address. She is all involved in 'dog rescue' and activities, but neglects to see that a known biter should not be at public places. I see her name ALL OVER the internet in local dog charity groups, but a ghost IRL. I have her age, full name, auto plate (DMV does not have current info) and home & cell #'s, as well as email address. I have left her one message per week on her voicemail for over 6 months. She will not answer or return phone calls. Several local counties have no record of her otherwise. The sheriff has come up with nothing. How can I attempt to recoup my $800 in out of pocket hospital expenses!!!

I have made no other contact except via the one # she gave me. All the other info I have on her is thru me playing detective online thru the breed & charities.

How about using a people locator service? They do complete background checks including Criminal Report, Lawsuits, Judgments, Liens, Bankruptcies, Home Value & Property Ownership, 30 Year Address History, Relatives & Associates, Neighbors, Marriage records, and more. for about $50. It would be money well spent and could give you some really good leads in locating her and recovering your expenses.

Unfortunately, this type of crime doesn't take precedence on the local law enforcement's case list. The cold hard truth is (with the limited resources and budget constraints most sheriff department's have) crimes involving drugs, aggravated assaults, rapes, domestic violence, etc take precedence.

I hope you recover quickly from the bite without complications, and that you manage to find this women and her dangerous dog before it seriously injures or kills someone.

you need to gather all your medical bills, make copies (black out sensitive personal info) and take it your city's district attorney and file a claim....this wont be in small claim's court though because your amount is greater than the maximum for small claims. the DA will hopefull flag her "record" and if she is as reckless as it seems, she will probably be caught soon. If you do have her name and see her around, it wouldn't be terribly hard to serve her with a subpeona to be appear in court. notify local animal activist groups of her terribly negligent actions and get the word out that she is a poor pet owner and even worse member of your community. if the dog has bitten before, he needs to be humanely destroyed. i hate to say that, but even as a vet tech, i can't support the raising and tolerance of aggressive animals.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, I hope you work everything out.

I would file a claim against her in small claims court. If you have her home number, then you should be able to find her address very easily. At least that way you'll get your medical bills paid for. As for the criminal part, it is up to the local police department to decide if they want to pursue it.

If you have her phone number (and it is listed) go to www.superpages.com and do a reverse look-up. It will give you a street address.

If It was me, I would send a letter to each of the places she is affiliated with and let them know what was going on. I would not say anything that could get me sued, just the facts. These groups may not wish to be associated with someone like this if they know and they may be able to put you in contact with her.

Good luck.
