Neuropathy is caused by a virus that inflames the nerve endings. It can be excuciatingly painful with not much known that helps. People with the AIDs virus often have it, which prompted serious research into easing the pain. They found that a psychiatric drug, a mood stabilizer, offerred many people relief. It is called Neurontin and is used often in psychiatic patients. The correlation between using it for neuropathy and using it for psychiatric purpose is not known. Neurpathy is definitly not a caused by psychiatric illness, yet it helps those with neuropathy a great deal. I realize the question was about home remedys, but this just came into mind, as it has been used for a number of years successfully. Hope this helps.

Some medication can work...Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lycira are just two options. Another treatment that is showing promise is anodyne therapy. It is a light therapy which uses electrodes and in theory afects the amount of nitrogen released within the capillaries of the effected areas. This treatment can be found at some but not all physical therapy clinics. I work in a therapy clinic, ours does not have the anodyne therapy, but I have treated a few patients working on gait and balance following treatment for peripheral neuropathy at a different clinic using anodyne therapy. Look it up on the internet for more information.

I have some clients with peripheral neuropathy and I know for them alternating heat and cold for 15 min each does help relieve some of the pain they do this for about 30-45min twice a day with frozen peas (sounds crazy i know) and dried beans in a pillow case warmed in the microwave... be careful with the heat because you will have a hard time feeling if things are too hot due to your neuropathy

Believe it or not, my mother puts a bar of soap...not Ivory or Dove...but any other brand...at the foot of her bed under the bottom sheet for leg aches. Someone told her about this home remedy and she says it has helped her a lot.

wish I can help you, my mom is 74 & she has it, just got it last year, started out that her legs gave out & went numb. Now she says the pain is unbearable(in feet) in a wheelchair now. No one knows what causes it or what to do. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I love her, and cant help her.
