My mom is my best friend too. There is a balance there. She knows when I need my MOMMY. You might just have to tell your mom that sometimes you need your MOMMY. If you ask her advice you may have to say "I need to know your advice as my MOM" or "I need to know your advice as my friend" depending on your situation.

After reading some of the other responses, I decided to add that I am 36 years old. My mother hasn't always been my best friend, but in the last couple of years we've become really close.

Take life as it comes and be thankful that you have the type of relationship that you do with your mother. Those don't come around too often and I know what it feels like to have your mother be your best friend. My mother passed in November and I miss more than anything the fact that I could just laugh with her. Be thankful and cherrish this time because it can be gone in a second.

Tell her you want her to be a mom too. If she really is a best friend she will understand and appreciate you setting a boundary. I don't know how old you are but the line between parent and peer gets blurred as we get older. It is important that you make your needs and expectations clear or don't expect them to be met.

When you have a problem that requires your Mom and she is acting like your best friend, calmly say you need a Mom's point of view instead of a best friend's view, and hopefully, she will understand.

its good you are close to your mom but just tell her you are happy but as you get older you need people your age to be your best friend not your mom . Your mom should also know how to be the mom when she needs to and be the best friend when she needs to just talk to her about it

good luck

I'm sorry to hear your mom is your best friend.

Unless you're 25, that's really NOT a good thing.

I suspect that when she is being a "BIT" to your friends.... that your friends probably deserve it.

Accordingly, YOU should do nothing

Tell her this...explain that you want the close relationship but that you are still young and need her advice and guidance and her to be a mother too! There is a happy medium that I'm sure you can have if you tell her.

I'm guessing your under 18, you need to talk to her about it, i think she'll understand. I'm 30 and since I gave birth to the first grandchild-my moms become my best friend too
