My son is four years old and I was thinking that I wouldn't work until he starts school so that he wouldn't be passed from sitter to sitter while I was at work. What are the pros and cons of this? (His dad is away working and going to school.... so he can't help with the everyday stuff)

You will never get these precious years back. You can always work when he's in school but right now have fun with him, teach him his basics, socialize him in play groups and ENJOY EVERY SECOND!!!!

I think that this is one of those damn if you do damn if you don't situations. I agree with not wanting to pass your child to different babysitters, but he needs interaction with other children. He needs to have friends his own age to relate to. Not only that, what about your time. Don't you deserve a break? What state are you in? In Florida, all 4 year olds get free Pre-K for 3 hours a day. No matter what your income is. It's called the VPK Program. If you are not in Florida, you might want to check into some other programs for him. It's also important for him to learn the rules of school. He would have to get use to following rules, sharing, taking turns, etc. Things are sooo much different in school now. My son was in Pre-K and they allow them to get their own lunch. They have to remember their lunch number and they are required to change classes like the other grades. It was really cute and hard for me to get use to his independence. We both appreciated it in the long run. Good Luck

I think that is a wise decision.. Watching your son grow up each day is the happiest time for you and him.. It is healthy to have quality time with your son while in his important first 5 years.. I think its great and a smart thing to do!! Oh yah and don't feel rush to work because he needs you more these years!!

You should definitely wait until he's in school. It's alot cheaper than hiring a babysitter or daycare. Most daycares will take a whole paycheck anyways. Good luck.

well i would say if you can make it financially without going back to work, wait until he goes to school. nobody will give him the love and attention that you will, you are giving him a good start. plus you dont have to worry about him all day. i think staying home with him is a good idea.

yep...a stay at home mom is best...even when they are in school...especially when in the teen years!!!!! 4 is a good age for pre-school stuff and you bringing and picking him up from those early school experiences is best.
