Romantic poetry. The nature imagery is a polite way of referring to a newly wedded couple just before, during, and not long after their wedding day. Throughout the history of the church it has been interpreted differently because of the impact of Greek dualism (that all matter is evil, therefore anything romantic that enjoys physical pleasure would be evil).

I like the introduction given in my English Standard Version Bible regarding this Book.

Introduction
According to the most common interpretation, the Song of Solomon is a collection of love poems between a man and a woman, celebrating the sexual fidelity God intended for marriage. God established marriage, including the physical union of a husband and wife (Gen 2:18-25), and Israelite wisdom literature treaures this aspect of marriage as the appropriate expression of human sexuality (Prov 5:15-20). This kind of love between a husband and wife creates a bond that is "strong as death (8:6), and the Song of Solomon celebrates such passionate love. It is possible that Solomon (10th century BC) is the author (1:1). However, this verse could mean that the Song was dedicated to Solomon or was written about him, so many scholars regard the book as anonymous.

Genesis 2
18Then the LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him." 19So out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." 24Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Proverbs 5
15Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well. 16Should your springs be scattered abroad, streams of water in the streets? 17Let them be for yourself alone, and not for strangers with you. 18Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, 19a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love. 20Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman and embrace the bosom of an adulteress?

SOS 8:6
6Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm,
for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD.

SOS 1:1
1The Song of Songs, which is Solomon's.

Romance and sex in marriage is beautiful and God approves it. God married Adam and Eve together as the 1st married couple and God's first commandment to this couple was, Be fruitful and multiply.

The hebrew version is like WAY naughty ;)

Its all a metaphor--as, i'd like you to note, the Hebrews/Jews/whatev were fond of using--for the relationship between man and god, comparing it to the relationship between man and woman.
