It's not thicker, just coarser.

I can say that I disagree with the first 2 answers. I've had white hair since at least the age of 19 (30 now) and even though it is courser, it is also thicker.

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd be interested to see if anyone answers you with a valid explanation. Good question. :)

only people who make it to the age to have white hair, and still have hair, usually have good thick hair to begin with.
