I personally despise religion. I feel it is justification for people to not take responsibility for their actions and behaviors. I think it inspires fanaticism that is dangerous to the world. I'm all for people believing in their beliefs, but the idea of an organized system to need to do that has always troubled me.

My God and I have a RELATIONSHIP based on what He has done for me. I couldn't reach Him, so He reached down and pulled me up to Him. We fellowship regularly because He did what only He could do to make a RELATIONSHIP possible.
Most people on this planet have a RELIGION, which is their ideas of what they must do to get to God. With 6 1/2 billion people on this planet, we have many different claims about whose particular set of rules and tasks will reach God, and it is the disputes over those rules that cause the religious wars. (You can see that the one whose rules are followed will have a lot of power, and it this power that is fought over, exactly like any other war.) Thus, RELIGION is the flip side of politics: it's all about power and controlling other people. No RELIGION will recognize a RELATIONSHIP with God is possible; only make Him happy by doing these things this way, etc. Me, I know I don't do anything for God, but that's okay. At least I don't call Him a liar.
Out here in California we have a game called jump to Catalina. You can start at the pier or the shore, your choice. You can take a running jump or standing jump. The contest is to see who can jump to Catalina Island. Oddly, the ones who go the farthest are only more wet when they plod back onto shore. No one makes it to the island, though. But they keep trying. RELIGIONS are like that. Because I have a RELATIONSHIP with God, however, He picks me up and carries me there.

Very few wars are actually fought due to religious beliefs. Sometimes people use religion to rally others to fight for them. Wars are almost always the result of GOVERNMENTS wanting to fight them. Some governments use religion as the catalyst others use ideals, some use blatant deception.
God has never, ever, no matter what some religious books tell you, insisted that man go to war. When one group wants land, resources, or "populations, they declare war. Sometimes they insist God wants them to have it. If they win, they declare God was with them. If they lose, God wasn't pleased for one reason or another.
Religion and spirituality is intended for the betterment of mankind both individually and collectively. When it is used for any purpose other than that, it is both false and evil.

I think religion can bring people together and be peaceful (like buddhism, I honestly can't think of any buddhist wars, or at least not ones either provoked or started by buddhists) or tear each other apart. To me, either a new religion needs to be formed that actually makes its followers be peaceful, everybody who can't handle being an atheist become buddhist, and those who can be atheists and still be moral become atheists or buddhists. Peace is only possible if others want it other than you.

I agree with you...Religion only divides people.....it's supposed to teach love but it breeds more ignorance and hatred towards others.
Every religion thinks their God is the biggest and the best and the ONLY one. It's such caca.
More people have been killed in the name of religion than anything else. All religions have blood on their hands and the world would be a much better place without it. Avoid it if you can. It's unhealthy.

Depends upon what "religion" you're talking about. Some keep quietly to themselves, while others are hypocritical of their own teachings and try to dominate the globe.
Any time a religious group kills others to get their point across, it tares people apart.
No, we are not at war because of religion, it's more about ideology. All religions are fighting in the Coalition against terrorism, and terrorism is promoted by a few radicals. (I say a "few" compared to the amount of people their up against.)

i think it has created everything we have...however...i dont think i should be as big of deal as it is...im agnostic and my boyfriend is catholic...its hard sometimes to understand where he's coming from because religion has played such a role in his life and kinda formed everything he knows...and i think its that way for a lot of people...they have grown up with religion shaping their life...it does force people apart a lot...and i think thats sad because i believe as long as you enjoy your time with some one from a different religion then why should it matter what God you believe in or if you think Jesus was real or not...the only reason there is for fighting over religion is because you cant see a person for their character or beauty...you see them as their religion...and cant get past that...i am friends with Jewish, Buddist, Christains of many denominations and my boyfriend is Catholic...i dont care what a person's religion is...i like a person and i'm friends with a person because we share the same outlook and goals for life...not because we share the belief on how life was created.

All religion has done for the earth (mankind) is to cause strife. Because religion is man looking for God, each in his own way, or is trying to prove that God does not exist. True contact with God can be acheived by asking for it and believing in your heart that he will answer you. If you truely believe that and have faith, he will reveal himself to you. If you are just looking for another reason to put God down, ignore what I have said. We all have to believe in something, why not believe in the TRUTH.

RELIGION DIVIDES PEOPLE and has done so since the beginning of time. Good but also bad because people change the practices of religions to fit their own ideal way of life. This is usually where the problems come in. ex. suicide bombers

it leads you far from God because it's man-made. If you have personal relationship with God you wouldnt even war with your own kind. We aren't war coz of religion, its the quest for money and power's fault.
