Does anyone know a really good recipe for hot chocolate? I've been wanting to make some since I do like hot chocolate. And please, don't tell me that I could just buy a packet and put the stuff inside boiling hot water... Thanks for those who are willing to give a recipe!

Mexican Hot Chocolate with spices

Ingredients

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
6 whole cloves
4 3-inch cinnamon sticks
2 cups milk
1/2 vanilla bean, split in half lengthwise
1 cup whipping cream, divided in two

PREPARATION:

1. Pour milk into a saucepan, add vanilla bean and allow to rest for 10 minutes.

2. Mix cocoa, sugar, water, cloves and cinnamon sticks in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly and cook over low heat for 3 minutes.

3. Heat milk over med-high heat until bubbles form around the edge of the pan. Remove vanilla bean.

4. Gradually whisk milk and 1/2 cup cream into cocoa mixture. Cook until hot but do not boil.

5. Strain the mixture into a bowl. Remove the cinnamon sticks and pat them dry.

6. In a chilled bowl, whip the remaining cream to soft peaks.

7. Whisk the chocolate until frothy.

To serve:
Pour into 4 mugs. Spoon some of the whipped cream on top and lay a cinnamon stick on top of each.

Heh, weird but good one:

1) Melt 2 Hersheys candy bars in a pan and add a tiny bit of water.
2) Add teaspoon of sugar to the pan and stir.
3) Add a bit of milk and keep stirring.
4) When the mix is just a bit less dense then a syrup, pour into a cup.
5) Fill about a sixteenth of another cup full of the mix.
6) Add milk, warm up, stir and enjoy!

My Mama's way: Hershey's cocoa powder, according to how
much you want to make. But for 4 cups of hot chocolate I do this.
Measure 1/4 cup of cocoa powder into pan, & 3/4 cup of sugar. Mix well then add 1 cup of water. Add 1 tsp of vanilla.
Turn burner on to medium heat, you will need to keep stiring it often. When the mixture is about to boil turn the burner to low and stir in 3 cups of cream( I don't used can cream) taste preference. I buy a quart of cream. It is rich but worth the effort.

I heat my milk in the microwave (enough to fill a coffee cup) and then add 2 to 3 tablespoons of Nestle chocolate powder. Then add one cinnamon stick and a dollop of whipped cream. You can add a cherry if you like. You could use a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder and sugar to taste instead of the Nestle powder. But remember to add enough cold milk to make a paste before adding the warm milk.

I like you use milk, dark chocolate, and cinnamon for my recipes. Sugar is an option.

find your favorite chocolate candy bar (like a hershey's original dark chocolate) and melt some of the squares in milk...water just doesn't work for it.
