I am not talking even about those who found God, but rather those who have been religious throughout their lives.

What better place to bring peace into their lives than prison? So many times it takes being imprisoned to get them to stop and think of what they are really doing to themselves and their lives. I know many that have perfect peace as they now know Jesus where before they were totally out of it. YOu can have peace no matter where you are or what you situation if you have God in your life. Look at Peter, Paul, John, others that were put into prison and they sang and praised God and even though there was a death decree that Peter was to die the very next day, he sang and praised God and then went to sleep and slept very soundly till the angel came to free him. Like Peter, we should all be content with where we are and in our place as God knows what is really in our hearts and will reward us one day soon.

Just my opinion: When you hit rock bottom, God is the only one who will be there to catch you. Some people have to come to the end of themselves before acknowledging that God holds the answers to life, both here and for eternity.
And yes, knowing that one's sins are forgiven does bring peace.

Only God can see into the hearts of men. Just because someone says they have found God does not make it so. The way a person conducts their life is more beneficial than all the words they say to justify themselves.

They don't get religious until they enter prison. Then they realize there's nothing else to do while they're there.

It's the only hope that prisoners have. This is especially true if they have no hope of ever getting out of prison.

It is because of the prison ministries which promote Jesus to the pisoners. They didn't go to jail becuase of Christianity, they found Jesus while in jail. They tend not to re-offend once they become Christian.
