It's due out in the second half of 2007 (over a year from now). Note - this is Microsoft and they have been known to change their minds, either failing to release it at all or pushing it back.

As for Vista - It's not due out until next year (for home users) and THAT could be delayed. (Microsoft, again, is KNOWN for pushing back their release dates). I wouldn't run it until the first service pack is released - or a year. Whichever is first. Unless you WANT to be a guinea pig for Microsoft. I mean more than most people.

Yes, according to Microsoft's media release last month, they claimed that they are working on a SP3 though their release date is not certain yet, my guess would be around September, just prior to the estimated Vista release. They are undoubtly more dedicated on completing their long overdue Windows Vista. As for whether it is worth it or not to upgrade to Vista, I would say no as just like with every other Windows OS, there were bugs that needed to be fixed. Bets are there would be a service pack for Vista a few months into 2007, so why hurry.

As a final note, yes there will be a SP3 according to Microsoft and I suggest staying with XP until atleast 3 months after release.

I'm not sure what kreale 78 is talking about. There will be an SP3 for XP, but it's not out now. The latest word is around the time of Vista release - in the fall.

Maybe kreale 78 is talking about Windows 2000 - SP3 has been out for a while.

Knowing the many security flaws MS has with it's operating systems I wouldn't touch Vista till it's been out for at least 6 months, they haven't stopped the security updates for xp yet but I'm sure it's coming mainly to force us to spend money on a new flawed operating system

There are some fake service pack 3's being offered, wait for the official Micro$oft release. Check on their site, I heard August.
As for Vi$ta, the pc specs needed are quite high; the beta is being distributed now but theres a limited supply.
I'm not going to bother because for what we do its not necessary.
