What kind of seizure's does he have? How old is he?

My daughter has had epilepsy since she was 7 years old. She started with petit mal and absence seizures, but eventually had grand mal seizures as well, though not frequently. She is now a 23 year old mother, working, going to college, and healthy. Her child so far has no signs of epilepsy.

Her seizures were under control with medication, and for the past few years she has been off medication, which can happen especially for those diagnosed as children.

Even with epilepsy, she was an athlete, an A student, worked since age 12 (tutoring other children, later as a waitress), and never let it stop her from doing anything she wanted to do.

It may take some experimentation to get his seizures under control with the least side effects, but keep working with his doctors until you accomplish that. He still has a great future.

If he has severe and/or frequent seizures that resist control with medication, there are procedures that can be done, and also he could get a dog that notifies of impending seizures. So even if he is one of the unfortunate people for whom epilepsy is a more serious ongoing issue, he can have a great future and be independent.

My son also has epilepsy. He is almost 11 years old but it started when he was 10 months old. He has been on countless combinations of medication and has had numerous tests. It's not the end of the world and your child can lead a normal productive life. There is a lot of good information on the epilepsy foundation webpage. Their address is epilepsyfoundation.org.

Yes, I have epilepsy! I found out when i was 16 years old. I was hospitalized at The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for 2 months, when i was released i was unable to walk for 6 months, spinal taps and lumbar punctures are what caused me not to be able to walk, the doctor screwed up. Some good medications are topamax and diamox.

My sister was just diagnosed with seizure disorder, possibly epilepsy less than a month ago.

My little brother also had it as a baby, but eventually outgrew it.
