Yes, I got mine declawed all 4. The problem was solved instantly! Now of course, I had to buy baby socks for his poor paws afterwards, as he healed up.

Please don't get him de-clawed. There are too many things that can go wrong, and it's really an unnecessary operation. They actually have to remove some of the bone of the toe, which, in time, can cause arthritis in some cats. While most recover with no ill effects, the procedure itself is painful.

Sorry if that sounded like a rant. Anyway, to answer your question, any time the kitten scratches you, stop playing. He will eventually get the message. Kittens will scratch, though, so it probably won't stop completely until he's older.

Kittens also have trouble retracting their claws when they are really young. You might just have to wait a month or so and he'll keep them in.

When playing with him, you can use toys that keep your hands away from little claws, like a feather on a plastic fishing pole - I've never known a cat who didn't like one of those...lol. Your hands will stay safe. :)

Softpaws, recommended by someone else here, are another option, but I'm not sure how small they make them. I've never used them on my cats, but I know some people who swear by them. Just go to their site - www.softpaws.com - to see what they're like.

Just so you know it's not hopeless - my cat scratched the bejabers outta my hands when she was a kitten. By the time she was a year old it had stopped completely.

There's this really cool thing at pet stores nowadays, for cats, they are fake nails for their real nails... I'm not kidding. They slide over their real nails, so they don't scratch you or your furniture. It's an alternative for getting them declawed. Some come in clear, some come in red, pink, etc.. pretty cute actually.. There about 10 bucks for 40 nails, they're shaped just like their real nails, and you just slide them on and glue. Viola! No more scratches, that hurt.

give him things to scratch and play with. i declawed my 4 cats but you have to make sure your going to keep them inside if you do that. The glue on nails is also a great idea!!

You could declaw your cat or spray them with a water bottle everytime it scratches you.

Keep a spray bottle handy and spray him with water to discipline him. Also, try LIGHTLY, swatting him on his nose when he misbehaves.
