(Please don't give him answers if you don't know what you're talking about hehe)
You usually don't drift with skylines, lancers, and other 4wd cars because they usually don't allow them in competitions, the only way you can use those cars in competitions are if you convert it to Rear Wheel Drive. I hope you aren't getting in the drifting after watching a movie or some TV show. Drifting takes commitment, money, and the know-how of cars.
As for cars, any rear wheel drive car can drift. So go look around for a Rear Wheel Drive car that YOU like, and you can start from there. There really isn't a "best" drifting car, it all depends on the driver, and how well he/she can handle their car.
Since this seems to be your first drifting car, don't go out and buy an expensive car, because you will most likely hit places and damage the car, even the pros crash their cars, so unless you know what you're doing, don't buy an expensive car. Find a cheap rear wheel drive car, and start from there! :) I hope you have fun.

In all honesty, I would use a 1st gen (78-85 I think) RX7, but swap a ford 302 V8 into it. The V8, using aluminum heads and intake, is only about 40 lbs. heavier than the 2-rotor 12a rotary that came in them stock. Plus, with the torque of the v8, you can break the tires loose much easier and quicker than a turbo rotary can, and still have every bit as much power. Sure, you wont be the flashiest looking car out there, but it'll do the job much better than some of the new imports of today. Also, you should be able to build that car for around $4000, with the priciest part being the aluminum heads. You can check out the kit at http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/

anything rear wheel drive... and lightweight.. yo dont have to have tons of power to drift... i have a 1990 240... it has a single cam motor.. and is only rated at 140hp... i welded the diff and upgraded to a better stiffer suspension... i drift... dont listen to a lot of people who say evo and skyline... evo's are AWD.... and unless you have the money for a skyline gt-s (rear-wheel drive) dont even think skyline... im not sure about prices now or where your at but you can probably get a 89 - 94 240 for about 2-3... you can get the sr20 to swap into it for probably 2100.00 - 3000.00 depending where you get it.. if you cant put it in then you have to pay someone to do it.. (obviously)
swappable motors into 240...
ca18det
sr20det
rb20det
rb25det
rb26dett
or you can always turbo the ka24(d)e whichever you get...

There are two cars synonymous with drifting, the Silvia turbo (Japanese 240sx) and the mid eighties Corolla which is to me the most famous of all drifters. I would suggest one of these (I would suggest a motor conversion on a 240sx from a ka24de to a sr20det, rb20det, rb25det, or my favorite a rb26dett) cars to you and to convert these to drift machines i would get a camber kit, a limited-slip differential and maybe some minor power upgrades of you choice.

240 SX is the easiest way to drift. Skylines, Supras and Zs are much more expensive.

dont get a solstace or neon. there rice to a new level. get a 350Z because they have a one of the best powerplants to build on. plus they come with 300hp stock and look very sporty. I would advise you not to get a rx7 because after about 100k miles the rotary engines go to hell.

well, i my opinion, you have three choices. either a mid 80's mazda rx7, toyota sr5, or maybe a supra. you mainly want something small, light, and rear-wheel drive.
