At 56, if your wife has reached the stage of Post-Menopausal Syndrome, you need not use a condom but if you are searching for a sexual favour with a stranger of the same age, you need to use condom to protect from contacting STD and HIV.

of course, firstly have you checked that she has gone through her menopause, as she may not have.
Secondly sexually transmitted diseases don't care how old you are, and although you may know each others recent sexual history some sexually transmitted diseases can lay dormant in some people but react with others. Chlamydia for example quite often goes un-noticed

condoms arent 'required' by any male at any age, but they SHOULD be used by any and all males having sex! a person can have a sexually transmitted disease at any age, and at most times, without even knowing it! safe is safe...

How long do you know her. I'm sure you won't get her pregnant, but it is better to wear protection, err on the side of caution. It is better for both of you if you both that you are using protection, its not 100 % but it is protection. Nothings 100 %.

if your married and been faithful no. but at any age you can get diseases so safety is the best bet. most people don't like the un-natural feeling, but caution is best.
