You shouldn't feel like an idiot, because actually he might have been asking u for real but when you replied with your answer he had to say that he was kidding. But if they aren't seeing each other then you should ask him out instead of waiting for another chance for him to ask you out. See how for your best friend is going to proceed first, before u make any moves. If she's just liking him from a distance and he isn't really into her like that then ask her would she mind, because you don't want to mess things up with your best friend over a guy.

Talk to the the guy that you like and find out if his interst in you is really worth confronting your friend. Ask him if he would be willing to profess his interest in you to your friend that also likes him. Then talk to your friend fand be as open with one another as possible. Let her know that you also have strong feelings for him as well. Ask her what her intentions are and if she plans to act on them. Then you can share your intentions with her. Remember if he is not loyal to either one of you one then he is availiable to either one or maybe someone else will get him before either one of you make a move. If your frienship is strong then she should be fine with the two of you if you so choose to date him. She may not like the idea at first but to like someone from afar renders no claim, and therefore he is fair game. Just make sure that you make her aware otherwise she will think that you stabbed her in the back. Life is about taken chances.

there is no way. and you will feel like an idiot when you lose your friend over some dumb stinky *** boy. so give up and move on. even if it doesn't work between them you still can't go there. in my friendships thats a rule you do not date your friends ex's at least not without making sure its ok first. friends will be there alot longer than any guy. especially these young guys. they are only working on hormones but with us girls we are more compassionate, loving and caring towards others so forget about a guy that is your best friends.

First, consult your best friend. When you explained that they were involved, I supposed you meant past tense. She will probably be more considerate to you if she knew how you felt about him.
Now, the boy. He said he was just kidding to protect himself or to protect your friend. He might not want her to know that he likes you. Odds are, he would ask you out again if you would show some interest in him. Boys love alot of attention. Just spreading a rumor around that you like him, will catch his attention. That would work.

Good grief you could make a reality show out of the question alone. Maybe should forward your question to Oprah.

It sounds like you are the stupid one. You never backstab a friend and steal the one they are dating. Like guys say "Bro's before Ho's"
