It will depend on your ASVAB scores on what you can and should do. Ask your recruiter if you can have him do an FSR2S. That is a system to see jobs based on your score, without taking the physical. Most jobs that you will qualify for can be seen in the system. Counselors at the Military Entrance Processing Station can sometimes see more jobs than your recruiter. If you are a High School Senior or Graduate (no GED) and do not require a waiver, then your Recruiter is authorized to use the FSR2S to show you jobs. Remember, some jobs may not be out there due to overbooking th etraining seats, and you may not qualify for many jobs you might be interested in, but it is not your Recruiter's fault if you do not qualify. If your Recruiter will not use FSR2S, ask why not, and if you are not satisfied with the answer, ask me later. National Guard do not have the system. The Army is teh only branch that has teh system. The other branches do not guarantee 100% of all enlistees a job guarantee in the contract.
As far as quality of life, I would prefer the faster promotions (and therefore higher pay) of the Army over anything the other branches offer. A fabric chair and $400 a month extra beats a leather chair.

I don't know why everyone thinks the army promotes faster. It might look that way on paper, but it doesn't work like that. In the navy, everyone takes the same test, on the same day. Therefore, promotions are completely objective. In the army, every single person walks into a different board. That makes promotion subjective.
The air force does seem to promote the slowest. If you're joining the military, don't do it for the money, because it's not there. Since you haven't picked an MOS yet, you still have time to look at the other branches. I'm willing to bet you've only actually looked at the army. Who knows? Maybe you belong in the marine corps. It's a personal decision, but you should gather as much information as possible before you make it. Also, I would suggest taking a lawyer with you to MEPs.

Take the test first and see what you're qualified for. Air Force has a better way of life (Go Air Force) and great training but slow to promote. Navy is also good, but can be stuck on a ship for months, Marines are highly skilled fighters and first responders (also the best uniform in my opinion) Army has alot going for it too, but not the highest qualtiy of life. I've known people who wanted Air Force or Navy but couldn't score high enough. Hope this helped.

Take the ASVAB and see what you qualify for but also go to www.goarmy.com and look at all the jobs the Army has to offer. If it's money you looking for the Army has it is a specific job and you qualify the Army can guarentee it if you qualify and it's the vacancy exist.
