Definitely the humane society, for all of the reasons mentioned here already. I have a 17-year-old cat (who just meowed at me, by the way) that I got from the Mississauga, Ontario SPCA in May 1989. I've never regretted it since.
While you may get a healthy cat from a petstore, you never know. Shelters make sure their cats are healthy before putting them up for adoption, and many shelters will have the animal spayed or neutered first, as well. And you can bet that the adoption fee at a shelter will be much lower than the price of a kitten at a petstore!!

The Humane Association. There are some many reasons why, it would be silly to list them, but the main two would be:
1. There are already millions of wonderful, deserving cats (and kittens) that need homes, and buying from a pet store promotes further breeding.
2) You can't leave there with the animal until it has been certified healthy, had it's first shots, and is spayed or neutered to assure another million wonderful and deserving cats don't arrive needing someone to adopt them!

Humane Society Someone needs a good home after being neglected or it will be put to sleep. Pet shops are the cause.

Humane Society is definitely the better place. Not only are they guaranteed to be up to date on shots, and vet-checked, they will be able to tell you if the cat/kitten is house-trained. (Most are, by the time they are up for adoption).
Petstores get their kittens from unknown sources, and most do not have proof of current shots, current health guarantee, and most do not spay/neuter them before they sell them.

Its so much fun to adopt! its very fulfilling to save a cat from a shelter.I got an adult cat last month from the ASPCA and she is a joy to have in my home.House broken and a sweetheart. The shelter also adds in alot of perks for a good price. They had cute kittens but they are priced a little higher than adult cats. They offer two for one specials as well.

you may be saving a life if you get one at the humane society. the ones at pet shops are just as untrained as the ones in the human society. if you get a kitten its easier to train them. but if you get a cat wos been in the humane thing for a while he'd be pretty calm since they are stuck in ccages their whole life.

Humane Society is better because the animals come spaded/neutered. Also they take in strays and help them get better than give them homes. Pet shops just do it for the money.

yes you can get them at the selter.
Wild untamable cats mostly are but down as they can be a threat.so most cats at shelters are "home" cats. Unwanted litters or the owners may find out they are alergic

Check out your local APL or shelter. Many times these animals come with vaccinations and are already neutered. Besides, every animal you take home is one less put down.
