What that means is that if a food meets 50% of the daily allowance of iron, for instance, is that they are taking that figure based by someone who consistently eats 2,000 calories a day...the average recommended diet across the board.

Of course, if you're a power lifter and take in 4,000 calories a day, then the iron in that particular product would be 25% of the daily requirement for you.

Is that a little clearer? It can be SO confusing.

it stands for calories in which a person by the fda standards says you need a day for a healthy diet with exercise. each food product you look at as the amount of calories in it, but thats per serving. if it says total cal is 250 but it has 2 servings thats 500 calories and 25% percent of your daily intact. more active people are 2500.

It means that they're basing the percentage of calories/fat/fiber/etc. on what amount the serving would be if you were eating 2000 calories a day.

it means a healthy limit to caloriesper day is 2000...that means to watch your calories eat under or at 2000 calories a day
