Whatever you like...if your in an apartment it would be best to get a small dog...if you out on a farm or something you can get something like a Lab or Golden Retriever. I myself prefer big dogs...I'm a huge fan of Great Danes. Very miled mannered and great with kids.

The English Springer Spaniel is a medium-sized hunting dog. His ancestry comes from hunting dogs of Spain. He was used to flush or "spring" birds from cover. They were recognized as a separate breed from Cocker and Field Spaniels during the late 1800s. They became popular in the United States in the 1920s.
The English Springer Spaniel is friendly, eager to please, quick to learn and willing to obey. He is a gundog with unlimited stamina so he thrives on physical activity.
The English Springer is of medium size, built to cover rough ground with speed and agility. His skull should be flat on top with his muzzle the same length as the skull. The eyes are of medium size, set wide apart. The color of the iris should harmonize with the coat color. The expression in the eyes is one of alertness and trust. The jaws should be square and strong, with a scissors bite. The upper lip should cover the lower lipline but not hang too far below it. The ears are set level with the eye and hang long and wide close to the cheeks. The neck is muscular. He is the leggiest of the springer-type spaniels. The legs are muscular and the feet are webbed for swimming. The back is short with a level topline. From the side, he should appear to be square in build. The tail is docked and carried horizontally. The coat is moderately long and glossy. Acceptable colors include a combination of white with liver or black. The legs, ears, chest and brisket have longer hair or featherings. The average weight of an English Springer is between forty-five and fifty-five pounds while the average height is between eighteen and twenty-two inches at the shoulder. Field dogs may be as much as 5-10 pounds lighter.
****ESS are very intelligent dogs and they can sense things that will astonish you. They are loyal and protective and sometimes even a little jealous. They can understand everything you say and they know how you are feeling. They get upset when you do and they love when you are happy. They know if you are scared and will defend you to the death if need be without even thinking twice or backing down for an instant. They actually seem to think they are humans and they seem to expect you to think they are too. They do get mad and they also get depressed at times, but they can spring right back as soon as you realize something is wrong and talk to them and ask them what is bothering them, spend some time with them and instantly they are back to their old selves. They are amazing animals, and also very beautiful ones too.
They are somewhat better suited to a rural environment, or a home with a large yard, since their energy is boundless. Once properly trained, you can ride a bicycle, and they will “heel” alongside, a great way for both of you to get excersize. Remember to allow them to 'explore', after all, it's THEIR walk.
They can adjust to an in-home environment, but I don't recommend it, since you'd be doing an injustice to the dog. They are great family dogs, and excellent watchdogs. If you leave the house for an hour, when you return expect to be greeted as if you've been gone for days.
There are two types of Springers. Field bred and Bench or Show bred. They are somewhat different visually, although the AKC recognizes them as one breed.
If you are considering owning an English Springer Spaniel, the most helpful tips I can give are these:
1) Someone should be available to be around the dog most of every day, for the first year.
2) Do your homework. Learn how to properly train your dog, and start the day you bring it home.
3) Treat it as a member of the family. Feed it the best food available (no table food) and find a good veterinarian.
Expect your totalannual costs for this family member, to be between$500 -$800.

Then it looks like you should consider getting an Australian Shepherd. They're really amazing dogs! Seeing as they're herding dogs they have a lot of energy which is good because you're energetic. They're one of the smartest breeds and pick up on potty training and tricks very quickly. They are also one of the most loyal dogs you'll ever find.

I would get a samoyed since it get very tame with its owners. They are white fluffy dogs that are very affectionatte and like to be included in your daily activities. Their great indoors and outdoors. They should be kept cool since they can become overheated in hot weather. It is a very loyal dog. Trust me, it is tight.
