Junkyards often do this. If a salvage title had been issued, it would be titled as salvaged/repaired. If a junk or salvage title were not issued (very common if you just junk a car yourself) then the title will be clean.

In some states, if a junk title is issued, it cannot be put back on the road legally. To get around this, some dishonest dealers or junkyards will "wash" a title through a state that does not have junk or salvage titles.

They are referred to as auto recycling yards now. Most of the vehicles that they get are good only for parts, but on occasion someone will junk a car that only needs a minor repair. The yard may then decide to fix and sell the vehicle. Once you sell a vehicle, it becomes the property of the buyer to do what they want to do with it! Once you accept a price for an item, it is no longer yours.

For example, I am a car dealer. I purchased a vehicle that the seller told me had a locked up engine. Because of that, I paid very little for the vehicle. They sold it to me because I was able to have it removed from their property quickly, and the junkyard would not come and get it for a week.

I got the vehicle back to my lot, and looked it over. I tried to start the vehicle, and the motor was making a strange noise, but was turning slowly. It seemed to me to be the starter, rather than the engine. I replaced the starter, and the engine was fine.

I took that vehicle to a dealer auction and sold it! I made a good profit. I had based the original purchase price on the vehicle having a bad engine, and that information was given to me by the seller. Seeing as I did not need to spend $1000+ on a replacement engine, and only had to spend $50 on a starter, it was worth repairing and selling.

If you sell a vehicle to a junkyard, thinking that it has limited value, and they are able to sell it, you have no right to complain. You decided to sell it for junk. Once you accept the money, you have no further rights!

There is nothing you can do about it.
They are in the recycling business and the car was recycled.
