Actually there are a couple of Biblical sources for it:

According to Christian teaching, death is the penalty for sin (Romans 6:23)—and this fact is the foundation of the Gospel! Moreover, how can all things be ‘restored’ to a state with no death, pain or tears in the future (Revelation 21:4) if there never was a time free of death and suffering?

This sinless world was marred by the rebellion of the first man, Adam. His sin brought an intruder into the world—death. God had to judge sin with death, as He warned Adam He would (Genesis 2:17, cf. 3:19).

God apparently caused the first death in the world—an animal was slain to make clothing for Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21). As a result of God’s judgment on the world, God has given us a taste of life without Him—a world that is running down—a world full of death and suffering. As Romans 8:22 says, ‘the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs’—because God Himself subjected the creation to processes of decay (v. 20).

The great news is, also there is death and suffering, there is also redemption.

Yes there is death and suffering. The reason for it is Satan in stating to Eve that "that you surely will not die" was a challenge God's sovernity. Then by Adam and Eve failing to obey God's direction not to eat of the tree in the center of the garden the tree "of the knowledge of good and bad" brought sin (disobedience to God's direction) into the world. This sin was then pasted to all mankind and death and suffering along with it. The death and suffering and pain and anguish are all part of the battle going on right now between Satan and his fellow fallen angels and demons and God and those angels that are on God's side. It is part of the challenge of God's Sovernity or right to rule. Satan, a spirit creature, was one of God's creations which also had free will. He chose to challenge God's right to rule as creator of the universe. Now as a result of that challenge man is ruling himself until the end of the current system of things. Which will be the "war of the Great God Almighty" at which time Satan will be abyssed for a 1000 years and paradise returned to earth. Then there will be a final test of mankind by Satan and all that follow him will be put to the "second death" from which there is no escape. The result for those left will be everlasting life on paradise earth. See the book of Revelation.

Because Eve had to jump into the proverbial sack with Satan, that old serpent of the Garden of Eden!
An apple a day keeps righteousness away. And sin is now abound in everyone.
Without death and suffering, Heaven wouldn't be such a big deal anyway, now would it?

actually first you suffer, then you die. ( the order is important otherwise you are suggesting Hell)

the reason(s) :

the purpose of life is spiritual development.
development implies learning
learning comes from experience
the most learning types of experiences are the kind that cause suffering
(EX: the jews slavery in Egypt taught them to have compassion for the outsiders and the underdog. this made them more fit for Gods plans.)
Good judgment comes from experiences
Experiences come from bad judgment
( you make a bad judgment, have a bad experience and then learn how to have good judgment until eventually you are wise)

death is the punishment for sin and teaches that there is no escape from ultimate justice. you pay for every sin eventually so avoid sin. death is enough punishment already, you do not need more. ( like Hell)
It also makes room for others who are waiting in line to get their turn at life to learn and move ahead spiritually.
after you die, your life is judged and you either move up the food chain or are sent back to be born, to suffer, and to die again. ((reincarnation) its a ***** but it works good. it takes time but you get a good product sometimes it could take 1,000 lifetimes.

wow. well death is part of our energy that just has to disapate into something else. We are here for a reason and when the reasoning has stopped we move on. Why people must suffer it is unfair but maybe we are being tested to see where our energy will go when we die. The test is to place us to the next fitting place.

Death is a natural part of life... Suffering is a result of imbalances in nature... When nature becomes balanced the appropriate effects will return... less suffering will just be one of the benefits... However, death is still part of the cycle of life and for the majority it will be in old age.

The wages of sin are death as long as there is sin there will always be death and as long as there is death there will always be suffering. It is a cycle that all started off with one sin and it is what it is because people continue to sin everyday!
