Most Atheists are very well versed in the bible. Which is we don't believe in it. It goes against logic and reason.

For what ever this thought is worth, because I'm not an atheist and neither am I a Christian, I share this ... There is a certain world renowned "holy" book belonging to a certain group of sects, fairly small in number. I own a copy and read it on occasion. It would be easy for one of the members of this religion to accuse me of being a closet believer or unsure of my own beliefs. Neither assumption would be correct. I read it, not because I believe one word of it to be true, but because it is really funny REALLY GOOD sci-fi. Its way cool entertainment and I love it. But that in no way indicates any kind of faith in it. Aside from the faith I have in picking it up and expecting a good laugh. Maybe you read the Bible for cheap entertainment, I don't know. For what ever reason you read it I don't think people need to be judgmental concerning that fact. ;-) ~ Peace & Blessings ~

Even satan knows the bible page for page, verse for verse. A true Christain would never answer this question with rudeness. A true Christian wants an athiest to read the KJV Holy Bible.

I'm catholic and with the exception of school, I have never read through the bible completely, have read what was asked of me in religion class (went to a catholic grade school), but honestly haven't picked up the bible in years.

You're an atheist and have read the bible then in my opinion, you took the time to do a little research and made an informed decision.

Knowledge is the key to infinite possibilities.
Ignorance will get you nowhere.

Believe in your self and what does it matter what others say.

I'm not sure what that person was trying to delineate. And I am correct in seeing that he reported you? I will not judge either way. Was it unfair or were you not sensitive in what you had said to cause this person to attack.

I, for one, do not believe that atheists read the Bible because they are in doubt. Perhaps many are. It is a curiosity they seek, but try to remain stubborn in their beliefs. However, I do see that some, possibly yourself who had been in seminary for 12 years, read the Bible because they choose to enlighten others to the what they have come to disbelieve inside it.

I respect your questions. However, I am happy that you continue to read the Bible even if it is to search out examples of its inadequacy. I trust that God is mightier than you and I. That His word will not return void.

As long as you continue to see His word, you still have one more offering or invitation that comes each day to rejoin. I know not your reasons for leaving, but I believe you are to come back. Reform if you must, but come back all the same. I would welcome you.

I am correct in my last few responses in thinking that when you say priesthood you mean Catholic? I understand other faiths have priests, however, Catholicism is, perhaps, the most commonly known as to have such.

I am Catholic myself and again would like to reiterate that I would enjoy hearing your story of exiting priesthood and faith.

Peace be with you.

Why shouldn't an atheist read the holy books of the various religions ? How else is he to know whether he believes any of it or not ?
A non-believer is not some kind of a nit-wit of some kind. Many or most of the greatest thinkers of the world are non-believers, although many go to church for appearances.

Not in that context. I have read your questions, and your "contradictions" that you point out are like apples and oranges. They cant compare to the same context, so it looks like your just getting this info from a Muslim christian hate site or something.

These are the same things that Mohammed coudlnt understand back in his day, mostly because he couldnt read. But, people reciting verses to him, out of context confused him, so he started his own.

The person that gave that answer is NOT a good christian. A good christian wants athiests to read the bible. That person needs to read the bible.

I don't agree. I think anybody has a right to question the Bible. I do think you are very aggressive however. There really is no need. You can disagree without being disagreeable you know!

Whoever told you that Christians are logical in their thinking, a lot of their answers on this site can give credit to that.
