I am considering the Sigpro 2022, the Glock 19, and possibly the springfield xd 9. I want it for defense and just general target shooting. I realize that any of the handguns I mentioned would most likely be fine for this, and that a lot will just depend on personal preference. However, I am still looking for opinions and soild reasons on which is the best 9mm. Thanks.

Has anyone shot the ported XD? I am not sure if I would like it or not. Does it flash or anything if you shoot it at night? and is there a potential to throw anything back toward your face? Also, has anyone actually shot the Sigpro 2022? It's Sigs ploymer framed handgun and the MSRP is $599, but I think I could get it for a little cheaper. Everyone always says how great Sigs are. Im not sure if I would like the DA/SA trigger. Is the trigger pull on the XD pretty good? Any information along these lines would be appreciated.

I've been shopping around for a 9mm as well and after much research I think I am going to purchase the newly released Smith & Wesson MP pistol. Its got superior ergonomics, and each MP pistol includes 3 different sized interchangeable palm swells to better the ergonomics! You can change the magazine release to either side in seconds, the slide release is ambidextrous, it has a steel rigid frame within the chassis, and and it has a built in rail!!
"Reinforced polymer chassis, superior ergonomics, ambidextrous controls, proven safety features. The new standard in reliability when your job is to serve and protect and your life is on the line."

I recently purchased a Springfield XD subcompact 9mm. It was $500 + tax nib. I purchased it primarily for concealed carry but now find I have it with me almost 24/7. I took it out last weekend and shot a whole bunch of different ammo that I collected over the years when I was a pawn broker. I will bet I had at least 10 different types of hollow points (including some new stuff). It fed and fired them all with out so much as a hiccup. The trigger is great and the accuracy impressive for a short barrel. The pistol comes with a padded hard case, a 13rd compact mag and a 16rd extended mag. It also comes with a mag holder, holster, cable lock, and cleaning brush. A nice package deal. I won't tell you to buy one, but take a look. I picked it over the Glock because I liked the grip angle and trigger pull better and I definitely like the grip safety. While some say it is a Glock clone, it is not. The internal mechanisms are very different. Loaded with quality self defense 9mm ammo, it will serve you just as well as a .40 with greater capacity and less recoil. Good luck.

If I were to choose for myself, it'd be the XD9, and here's why:
While it's modeled after the Glock, it has two extra features that Glocks don't: A ****** indicator, and a grip safety. XDs were put through all the torture tests Glocks were, and proved they were able to stand up under such abuse.
Glocks are great, but you don't know when they're ******, and --like the XD, the only way to decock them is to pull the trigger. They also have no safety apart from what they have on the trigger.
The Sig Sauer is an excellent gun, but I don't see you getting it for $500. I think the XD's the best buy for the money.

I have two favorites in the 9mm caliber. For double action, I like the Beretta 92F. I have a full sized and the compact version. Both are very versatile weapons. For single action, I like the Browning Hi Power. I have a modern P-35, and one of the original 1935 Belgium made Hi Powers, for a collector's item only.

My shooting buddies will never forgive me for saying this, but for an inexpensive gun that goes "bang" every time you squeeze the trigger, you can't beat a Glock. I did, however, get to shoot a Springfield XD .45 this past weekend, and I was impressed. Very nice gun.
ANY ported gun will have lots of muzzle flash at night. The porting is designed to redirect some of the exhaust gasses from the muzzle and direct it upward instead. High flash is not unique to one ported gun; it's an inherent problem in all of them. But we're talking about 9mm here. Learn to control muzzle flip and there's really no need for porting, is there? Push forward with the strong hand, pull back with the support hand, and squeeze the trigger. Simple.

Glocks suck? Haha that's rich. They may not be the right handgun for every shooter but they most certaintly do not suck. Oh and newer models do have a loaded chamber indication on the side near the extractor.
The XD9 is a another fine choice. Anything by a reputable manufactor really. You should shoot different models to see which one you like best.

I will not recommend the glock. I personally don't like them.
I myself own many handguns. None of which are glock. I do own and perfer Ruger P85. I stand by this weapon as well as behind it. Have NEVER had any problems with it, and just for your info I have used it. It took out its target and then I paid my dues for using it. BUT I still own it and possess it. And YES I stand by what I did with it and if had to I WOUILD do the SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN if I had to.

I would recommend the Glock. It is a durable firearm. It is almost indestructible, reliable and accurate. I have owned several handguns and many of them have been Glocks. I have never had one jam or malfunction. I carried one in 40 cal for several yrs as a cop with out regret.

If you were to go with the Sig,I would look into a used Sig P228.
They have very little trigger creep/travel,very good sight radious and can be equiped with a tactical light(go with Surefire)and/or a laser. It has a rail that is incorperated into the frame. Very nice gun
Also they have high cap mags
