When we scratch ourselves, it 'overwhelms' our nerves, calming the itching sensation. So, it gives us the reprieve we are looking for.

No. because our skin is alwayss growing and producing new skin so when we itch ourself we are getting ride of extra skin folicals. Actully whenever we touch are skin folicals come off but that is basically the many reason unless you have a rash or something

Basically itching can be caused by foreign objects, and itching is a natural way of removing the objects. But when the itching is caused by something else, the defense of itching can cause more harm.

we do it as when we are born and get older its programming of nature. you get a itch and it feels better to scratch it. you see it as you grow up and do it. there has been research in behavior and if a child is brought up say not to scrach and not feel pain it can be done as with the masters in the temples. since the time they can walk they are trained by programming and upbringing to do certain things certain ways. through generations we have been taught to strach as it makes it feel better, even though it makes it worse.
