try ringing up shelters, the new Dogs trust shelter has just opened in south west london. Try asking if you can volounteer at weekends when they are busiest as a dog walker to get to grips with what it is like working with dogs. They always need volounteers. As to getting a career in it, you should go for kennel hand jobs, and eventually work up to being a handler. Apparently you can make a good living from this. Good luck, I hope I helped a bit.

You could try asking at various kennels and charities like the R.S.P.C.A or the Blue Cross.
You could also be a guide dog puppy socialiser this is someone who has the dig in their home and helps to train them to not panic at traffic and other noises and how to cross the road altho this job is voluntary I'm sure it could lead to something permanent.
You don't say if you have any suitable qualifications or experience and most places are looking for that but maybe volunteering somewhere at the weekends would be a good start and a great way to get hands on experience

Do you have any sort of telephone directory? Look under Humane Society or SPCA or animal control. All of those places would love more volunteers. I know you want a job, but that would be a good place to start.
Get a job at a veterinarian's office.
Try petsitting
Are you good at training dogs, do that.
Groomers are always in demand

My friend got into working with animals by becoming a volunteer, at the local kennels, She used to walk and fed the dogs. She never had the chance to become a vet, but she is now a carer for people. She loves her job.

The first thing you need to do is look up your local animal shelter and try there. (Try vets also they need assistants from time to time). My daughter worked in an animal shelter with a group of friends and had a ball, it was hard work though, cleaning up dog poo, walking them, feeding them etc and you will probably go home with a four legged friend too, good luck!

You could be a canine massage therapist. You work for yourself, set your own schedule, make great $$$, and alleviate suffering in animals. What could be better than that? If you are interested, e-mail me through Yahoo!Answers and I will give you info on a school that offers training.
