If you are allowed to shoot varmints with a semi-auto the Ruger 10/22 magnum is a good choice. A box of 50 shells is $6-$8.
The magnum has more range than the .22lr and is a lot cheaper to shoot than center fire ammo.
With practice shots to 150 yards and farther are possible. On the 22lr shots to 100 yards are about it's limit.
10/22's are easy to upgrade with heavy barrels, new trigger groups and fancy stocks.

I actually have a Ruger 10/22 LR and that i'm nonetheless placing it up. i can inform you that it is unquestionably the main customizable rifle available in rimfire. each thing is available from a inventory Ruger for about $150 to a Volquartsen custom for upwards of $3500. It relies upon on what you're desirous to do with it. in case you decide directly to be waiting to stack your photos all day long for aim/opposition taking photos i might recommend switching to a bolt action Savage and in all likelihood evaluate going to a .17 HMR. whilst you're purely searching for a first rate all-around gun then the Ruger is rather solid. i will tell you that because of the automated action mixed with the inherent grime of .22 ammo, i might recommend some CCI ammo such because of the fact the Minimag HP or Velocitor rounds. it is well worth buying solid ammo because of the fact the greater least costly stuff reasons the rifle to no longer cycle exact which gets hectic actual speedy. verify community pawn shops and gun shops. The Ruger is rather no longer trouble-free and easily repaired so shop money by utilising buying around. solid success and function exciting!

.22 is the least expensive ammo

Ruger 10/22 is moderately priced, and they're fun to shoot.
Marlin 60's are under $200 and are tube-fed.
Any Savage is a good deal--they're very accurate and not expensive.

Next step up would be a .223, and the one I've heard most people rave about is the Ruger Mini14. Of course, you're looking at @ $750, but the ammunition's only @ $5-6/box.

a .22 caliber is good for killing pesty varmints as well as target shooting. Easy to handle and not very poerful, but will do the trick.

i would recomend a 22-250. very high velocity, next to no recoil, and inepensive. highly accurate and more than enough for coyotes and gophers.

What are you that weak minded that you can not come up with other ways to catch your prey.

I feel that a person who has to have a gun to kill is a person that is afraid to try.
