i'm sure there are equivalents in many animist and ancient cultures, but i'm mostly aware of the concept of "two-spirit" people in the Native American tradition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berdache
prejudice against homosexuals is a fairly new phenomenon in general, dating to about the 1100s in Christian society. before that, if they weren't exactly considered "holy," there were certainly a fair amount of christian priests and bishops who were gay, and who wrote poems and songs about it that were excised from the tradition during the time of the Inquisition. read John Boswell for more information.

Religions favoring same-sex relationships often did so as part of a conservative, age-structured educational process, as in the military system of ancient Sparta. There same-sex relationships and heterosexual marriage supplemented each other. The later Celtic warriors also engaged in same-sex love. Some traditions expect all young men to practice same-sex behavior as preparation for heterosexual marriage.
It is true that the Romans honored same-sex marriages and that the Japanese samurai institutionalized same-sex unions. The Chinese in the Ming dynasty, many Native American and African tribes, and other European, Asian and South American cultures accepted such relationships.

Maybe something during the time of Plato in Greece, but 4 search engines turned up nothing. The only links were saying that homosexuality denies Scripture. This sounds important to you that homosexuality would be honored...

Some aboriginal tribes in Papua New Guinea or New Zealand. I'm not sure about the religious aspect of the matter, but as a rite of passage, boys were sodomized by adult varriors, usually male relative from the mother's side of the family, or performed fellatio on them. It was believed that along with their semen, the boy absorbed some of their strength, knowledge and skills.

It may considered holy by man, and God will not make that call. All sin cannot exist or permitted in the presence of God. Man may call it holy, but to the Supreme Being it is sin and always will be.
Sodom and Gomorrah is not just a biblical story it shows how harshly God punishes those who follow his commandments .
