Israel, a tiny middle eastern country with few allies, surrounded by enemies, and home to a population of discontented, and extremist, muslims who want them wiped off the map, was created, survived three large-scale wars against multiple enemies, and a fifty year terrorist siege, almost devoid of outside help. Does this point to devine intervention, or are they just that good/lucky at survival?

I do agree that they are skilled and determined, Ronin. But many battles in history have been won by the "inferior" force.

I think also, the fact that Israel has no major ports, no major natural resources, its arid and dry, not considered a fertile land, void of most mineral and oil deposits... and yet every single nation on this planet has some sort of dibs on something, or at least a plan for the country, proves all the more than theres something Divine going on with it.
not to mention that the Jews were completely missing from that area, and widely dispersed throughout the world for centuries, yet they came together, speaking their same language, and headed back to Israel, just like it was said they would.
When has anything on THAT grand a scale every happened?

My dear fella do some searching on the following items, check the dates on google search and then tell us what really happened.
Do a search on the following:
1.Deir Yasin Massacre
2. Stern Gang
3. Irgun
4. King David Hotel, Jerusalem.
5. USS Liberty
You will find out that terrorism first came to the Middle-east through the Jewish extremists who came from Europe.
Also remember that Israel receives massive aid from other nations. In fact if the hand outs were cut off, Israel will shrivel in a year. David never received aid or advanced weapons from gentile nations. David had the same situation, he had a small country, but he never begged for help!!
Also remember that Japan was a small country that terrorized China of all nations during WWII. A small fleet of the United States can fire hell into any unprepared larger country. It is not the size, but the equipment that counts in modern warfare.
THAT is why everyone is so apprehensive about Iran or North Korea getting modern weapons.
So, it is good to have some balance in your views.

It is hilarious to read some comments "its arid and dry" and yet they invaded the Golan Heights to get control the Tiberiad lake. The divine miracle would not take place if US of A stopped sending over 7 billions dollars of tax payers to them. Plus the military resources.
If they stopped building walls, stopped bombing their neighbours, but mostly STOPPED THE FU*K*NG CONSTRUCTION OF SETTLEMENTS, maybe they would attract more sympathy from other countries. They laugh at UN in not respecting the resolution on occupied lands and then they wonder why everybody except USA, Micronesia, Marshall Island, always votes against them.
"No more blind than the people who do not want to see."
If you want peace, make peace. Not war. They are simply harvesting the seeds they left over the past 40 years.

The claim that God picked a land for a specific people to me is the same self centered way of thinking most people that gets involved in religion have. That god only cares about the people who does his so called will.I know when the sun shines it shines for all without it I will die.If I have what you want there are way for you to lay claim. No matter what way it is you try to lay claim you will still be in violation of coveting my neighbors house, one of the ten commandments,If I don't freely give it to you.

In response to NGV, you do realize that Israel would only 'shrivel and die' from lack of aide in the context that it is SURROUNDED by hostile nations? That poor little microstate has to maintain defenses capable of stopping attacks from over a dozen nations, all bigger than itself. Keep in mind, who is the underdog in this struggle.

God has his hands on them and will save all
Israel .(and soon I believe)
ISRAEL - GOD'S MIRACLE NATION
CHAPTER FOUR
The Foretold Dispersion
Israel is God's miracle nation because of its dispersion.
Israel's dispersion was prophesied long before Israel became a nation and before the people of Israel entered the land. God spoke to Israel through Moses saying:
And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste (Leviticus 26:33).
And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone (Deuteronomy 28:64).
How extraordinary! God tells us about Israel's dispersion even before it became a nation.
After Israel became a nation, Ezekiel wrote:
And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall scatter them among the nations and disperse them in the countries (Ezekiel 12:15).
And I will scatter thee among the heathen, and disperse thee in the countries, and will consume thy filthiness out of thee (Ezekiel 22:15).
God kept His word and the Jews went into dispersion twice. The last dispersion was in 70 AD by the Romans.
The Jews never forgot Jerusalem while they were in Babylon during their first dispersion. They sang the words of the following psalm:
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion." How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land? If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy (Psalm 137:1-6).
After their second dispersion by the Romans, until they returned to their land in 1948, they were always confident that one day they would return to their land. Every year at the celebration of Passover, they greeted each other with the words, "Next year in Jerusalem."
The Jews never forgot Jerusalem, it was always dear to their hearts.
Not only God loves Israel but I do to.Jesus was
a Jew.Praise Jesus Name!
In Christ in Love,

Considering that no army has ever lost to an army that was it's inferior in strength and/or numbers, I'd say it was skill and determination.

I think it's a little of both. But remember; the U.S. did help them and gave them a lot of technology to get started. They just made a lot of the technology better.
