For what? Plinking? Concealed carry? Both? If you threw the P229 in there, I would assume you are looking for a concealed carry gun, in which case the P229 would do nicely.

I've been intrigued by the .357 SIG auto pistol cartridge since I first heard about it. Necked down from the .40 S&W (which is a shortened 10mm), it's supposed to give you the energy of the .357 Mag revolver round in a more useful combat handgun like the SIG P229. I've not used the .357 SIG yet, but I've had great experiences with both 9mm and .45 ACP SIG pistols in the past. I would recommend them highly.

P229.

The .40 cal is larger, and slower, than the .357. Therefore, it has more knockdown power. The Sig Sauer is an excellent weapon! It's accurate straight out of the box.

Since you are saying what brand of .357 you are interested in, I can't say anything else about that.

Question: Will you be using this weapon for home protection? If so, I recommend a shotgun over a pistol. Pick up a pump gun.

The 9mm cartridges are just as deadly as the .357 rounds. It sometimes will not pass all the way through like a .357 will and the target will absorb more of the energy, if the bullet stays in the target. If you are needing protection from a grizzly bear, I would opt for the .357 mag. If protection is for man size or smaller, I would opt for the smaller round simply for clip capacity. Larger ammo equals less ammo in the clip. Hope this helps.

I'm a gun expert ....blah blah blah...

I am the joe-schmoe, not a gun xpert so my opinion should be more valueble, as it not duplicated, hee hee

Get the P229 it's an auto U can reload faster. Wheelguns, they said, usd to be more reiable but nowadays U might as well get the auto. It's a classy gun and it will complement you well. Someone said .357 sig. That would be cool. U can usually drop in barrels on a .40SW so U could get a .40 and then the .357Sig barrel only.

9mm's are for "kids" get something with real power.

I assume you are talking about handguns, in which case if it is for your own use I would recommend a smaller caliber than a .357. Larger calibers usually have more powder resulting in more recoil. You must have the strength to keep the gun level during firing and prevent wrist or arm being strained

depends on the use. the 357 will stop an intruder and most of his family, but just to target pracitce the bigger the round the more money.

from those two choices... the .357.... but I would actually reccomend a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson. It has less recoil and packs a great punch for close quarters shooting.

A small gun is easier to conceal. A larger cal. has more knock down power. Most of the time I carry a .380.... But you need to get the one that you are comfortable with, and can handle with ease...
