There are a variety of ways of dealing with gossip.

You can take the “high road,” as many here have suggested, and it would be great if the world worked like that. The truth we all know however, is that few people take the high road, and so if you do, you will be up there alone.

Being defensive is never effective. Denying a rumor is rarely believed, and even if it is believed, it is less interesting than the rumor itself, and so it is not spread the same way the rumor is. Also when you appear defensive, it gives the rumor legitimacy, and makes people think it must be true. ALSO – being defensive is amusing, and makes you the butt of an even bigger joke – it is “getting a rise out of you,” and makes it more likely that people will gossip about you more in the future – just to see your reaction.

Ignoring the rumor is the fastest way to make it go away, and prevents you from appearing defensive. This requires however that people believe that you remain ignorant of the rumor. If people think that you know about the rumor, and don’t say anything about it, people assume that it must be true – or you would deny it.

If you cannot ignore a rumor, the only option left to you is to be aggressive and turn the rumor back on whoever started it. This is usually the best option – it deflects the rumor from you and puts it back where it belongs. If Jan is telling people that you slept with Mike, you correct them – you didn’t sleep with mike, you slept with Jim, Jan’s boyfriend, because he said that Jan couldn’t satisfy him.

In ALL cases, NEVER over react to a rumor. Always laugh it off like it does not bother you – especially when it does. Always be cool, and un-fuckwithable. If the rumor is that you got all Ds on your report card; correct the rumor “I didn’t get ALL D’s – I got 4 Ds and an F in Gym.” HAHAHA...

ALWAYS retaliate. If you fail to retaliate, then you have taught the person who started the rumor that there is no consequence to starting rumors about you – other than the rise in popularity they receive for being “in the know.” Be careful, wait until the last rumor has died down, and start your own rumor, or retaliate in some other way. DON’T get caught or you will look petty and mean (though even that can be managed and used to your advantage) and your rumor will backfire.

Well, I agree with the other person...if it's not true, then don't worry about it. Also, if it's not true, then eventually look like an idiot for making things up....get over it and find you another. Let her talk her smak.......don't drop to her level though.....just let her make a fool out of herself. Good luck

You need to confront her in front of people and call her out without yelling at her. If she doesn't rectify all her lies than you gotta never hang out with her again and find better things to do. If all your friends believe her over you they weren't friends to begin with.

why don't you call her up and confront her about it she probably isn't expecting you to do something like that. she will also deny it . if it doesn't stop mabye you should give her some of her own medicine.
