I just spent the afternoon in a garden with 150 hippies, all doing mindfulness, eating organic food, painting childrens' faces, telling stories and generally meditating the hell out of each other. All very nice and pleasant but WHERE'S THE *&£$£$ING SENSE OF HUMOUR GONE???!!! Honestly, this lot are as bad as evangelical Christians. No - actually they're worse. Evangelicals can laugh at themselves (cos we're all sinners, right?). Hippies take themselves so seriously you feel you should bow and throw rose petals as they walk by. Hrrr hgggghgrrr.

The only real hippies were the ones of the sixties and they grew up (most of them) and eventually joined the system anyway.

The rest of the people who are of our generation (born in the mid 60's to very early 80's) who would be recognised as "hippies" of today are just a bunch of overly dramatic, pretentious, half- witted, half-baked, and above all FAKES.
I really don't get what any of them stand for--and I'm a liberal (for the most part)!!!
I am vegetarian, I'm an artist, I am for legalising many drugs, I believe there needs to be government safety nets, I am all about environment and conservation and I hate any injustice to man or animal. But I really can't figure out these "hippies" , I think they are just trying too hard to be counter-culture. If it gives you any idea, my politics are mostly left but I can't hang with those people, and they, I don't think, feel comfortable around me either. Maybe because I can see through their dread wearing, patchouli smelling, lazy eyed smoked filled facade.?
Maybe you found them humourless because they are so wound up-tight about their collegial political correctness and being 'sensitive' it has drained them of anything remotely interesting to say and has robbed their ability to find themselves ironic.

I live near this town which is kind of a UK national hippy/new age centre. On June 21st - midsummers day, summer solsticel - they had a big ceremony in a park in the town. There was meditating, drumming, dancing, fire-walking, the whole shebang.
What I thought was really ironic was that it had to be finished by 8pm as the Council needed to lock the gates to the park. Kind of spoilt the vibe, in my mind....

If that was your experience maybe you are not ready for that group of people. People tag me a hippie and I have a good sense of humor. It just depends what you find funny. I don't find jokes about killing anyone funny or about other races or cultures. That's just me. To each their own. Did you speak to each of them or are you making a blanket statement of your experience? Did they get together for a cause or just to hangout? If they had a purpose for the gathering that may be why it was more serious. I know a few hippies and they suit me just fine.

Heads up... all the hippies grew up ... probably before you were born. What you call hippies today are not the genuine article... trust me on this.

guess maybe they never got it going in the 1st place. maybe they should grab a bottle of Jack Daniels and listen to Willie Nelson ? Some attitude never hurts. gotta start somewhere and the bottom is the easiest place to find, lmbo.
