It really depends on what you want done. I replaced my tile countertops with granite, replaced all of my appliances (dishwasher, cooktop, sink & faucet, fridge, wall oven), refaced and refurbished my cabinets, replaced the vinyl floor with ceramic tile, upgraded the lighting and it cost me $30,000. I've done kitchen remodels for less and with less upgrades for as little as $10,000. Sears will reface your cabinets for around $8,000 with nothing else.

Do you want to do a complete remodel?

It really depends where you buy your cabinets and how many you need. If you go with custom, you will be paying the premimum.

If you go with those that are in stock, you will save about 40%.

Will you be using formica or granite for your countertops? The price there varies greatly.

Some of the newer formica have come a long way as far as how they look. I can't really say what it would cost because I don't know the size of your kitchen.

If you 'refurbish' your existing ones you will also save. But don't go to places like Sears, they will charge you as much as new cabinets, make sure to get about 3 estimates.

The finishes you use can affect price as well. What are you using for the back splash? Tile is pretty inexpensive and looks nice. Stainless steel looks beautiful but is very pricey. Your faucet can be quite expenisve as well.

As far as the appliances, the best prices I found were at Lowes, they had the best selection too.

If you want to save money, I recommend you do some of the leg work yourself, find as much as you can yourself. Buy the items yourself like the cabinets, Lowes and Home Depot carry a good selection of in stock cabinet, at decent prices. Same with the countertops, appilances, and backsplash. Find a licensed contractor to install them.

I flip homes for a living and that is how I have saved thousands on kitchen remodels. Hope this helps!

We are about to do our kitchen and we got 3 estimates. One was 17000, one was 10000, and one was 11000. And they were all the same design! We had a picture of the kind of cabinets we wanted.
We are having our cabinets custom made (very nice with crown molding and added built ins), granite countertops, new sink and moen faucet, new pot lights, designed tile backsplash, new lighting for dining area, and adding new vent hood with built in microwave, removal and installation of cabinets and all labor.
The home improvement store was charging us the highest. Hope this helps.
