Some DVD camcorders take pictures and video. Some Camcorders record photos on the original media by freezing a frame of video, some have a separate media for the photos.

The camcorder will play video taken with the camcorder on tv's and you can transfer the video to computers to edit and make videos, DVD and/or VHS. I have heard of some camcorders that record to DVD recorders and make DVD's directly, but you don't get to edit those videos.

My recommendation is to get a photo camera to take photos and a camcorder to take video. A camcorder that takes pictures doesn't take very good pictures and a photo camera that takes video doesn't take very good video. Get a camera for each.

If you want a combo, I would determine which is most important to you, Video or Photos and get the camera that will give you the best quality for that mode of recording. So, if video is most important to you, get a camcorder and get one with the best photo capabilities you can afford. BUT be mindful, if you start to pay too much, it may be more econimical to own a separate photo camera.

Get a Camcorder that records DV either on tape or on small media DVD's. Get a camera that can record at least 3 megapixels. You can go as high as 6 megapixels, but 5 is good enough and 3 is the minimum for 4x6 photos.

You must choose the best model or brand depending on your priorities, but major name brands can be had for good prices, Sony, Samsung, JVC, RCA. Panasonic, Canon. I would avoid Bu Bu Gao because I'm sure they have no authorized service locations in the US.

Good Luck and Happy Shopping.

It depends on the DVD recorder. Look for those that play MPEG 4 (for your videos) and those that allow pictures from cameras.

The brand I recommend is not available in the US - it is Bu Bu Gao.....sounds strange I know...but you can play any scratched disc with that DVD player (I tried my sony, panasonic etc) and it failed. This brand plays them all.

in case you get the gadget with the VHS equipped in you do not ought to connect both at the same time. in case you get the machines without the VHS equipped in you do get more advantageous selections of machines for the most section. relies upon upon how a lot you want to spend. yet convinced, the better priced and extra sturdy machines do no longer have the VHS unit equipped in. Connecting the VHS to the DVD recorder is a controversy of connecting the video and audio outputs of the VHS gadget to the video and audio inputs of the DVD recorder (yellow to yellow, white to white and purple to purple) with RCA cable connections.
