blessings and curses have the same basis. Focus and intent. The difference lies in both the reason and the belief. For a blessing or curse to have any effect the person being blessed or cursed, is for the person to accept the blessing or believe that they are cursed. Belief no matter the religion is what gives symbols and such power. I am a witch and I can cast spell after spell on someone, however if they do not believe in it or do not want it, it will not work. Most of your formally taught witches and pagans know this. That is why we only do spellwork with the persons permission, that way we know they want it and that there is a chance for success (no spell is fool proof or will "always" work). As for curses any formally taught witch WILL NOT cast such. It ties you in with the person being cursed and causes a karmic backlash to the caster that is not pleasant.

If you hear of someone saying "I can curse so and so" or I can cast a spell on so and so and they will not know it and it will work," laugh and walk away. It is a two way street for any spell work to have an effect, if it involves another person. If you are doing a blessing for yourself, then there is no problem obviously, since you accept and believe.

I hope I answered your question.

How do they work?
Well, I try to leave everyone I meet with a blessing of some sort.
A blessing may be spoken casually:
God Bless you!
Namaste!
Merry Meet!
Formally: A priest or prophet or parent or friend with both hands extended in a holy place and the hands held over the head of another or placed on the head of another says a prayer...example:
May the Spirit of Almighty God descend upon you and grace you and bring you joy.

May the living God fill you and inspire you and multiply your joys and inspire all your endeavors.

God go with you, my friend.

May the sun rise to meet you and the road before you be smoothed. May nightengales sing you to sleep and all whom you meet bless you.

A formal blessing may use holy or blessed oil and you may be anointed in + the name of the Father + the Son and + the Holy Spirit.

A curse usually involves invoking a diety to
smite another person, plant or creature with death, damnation, serious illness...usually when the curser is angry about something they will be sorry for in the morning or an hour later.

I have always felt it better to bless rather than curse.

If God loves us all and we are God's children...who are we to presume using God's name to harm anyone?

Bless you!
Lil

blessings and curses,, are in the tong,, the word of god says there is blessings or curses in the tong, so when you speak you are actually speaking prophesy of your-life , of blessing or curses, in other words , if someone should say to you, how are you today , and you say in return, well i don't feel to good and this has happen wrong and that has happen wrong, well that's what you get ,, but if you should say, well I'm doing well thank you ,it a wonderful day, and all is good, then that's what you get, there is power in our words, because god said the spirit of god that is in him ,,is also in us,and god spoke the world into being, and we have the same power to speak things good or bad into our own life's , that's why god's word says there is power in the tong, so speak well of yourself as well as of others, because what you say about others will come back to your own life, so only speak good ,, and you will be blessed

Blessing: A person may hope and wish for your best, may even help you, while you are in their prayers.
Curses: A person hopes, thinks and wishes the worst for you, may even go to the extent of screwing you up in any and every way. May influence others to do the same that he does, perhaps?

In either case, your Karma defines your life. What goes around, comes around.
