The US never really had any contact with Hungary during WWII, but when I visited Budapest in the Summer of 1996 I was surprised to see a large statue of a US Army Officer standing prominently in the middle of town. At the time I was on R & R for 36 hours during a year long tour in Bosnia. I was pretty inebriated at the time, and didn't really figure out what the statue was all about until I checked it out here in Wikipeida...

Major General Harry Hill Bandholtz (1864 - May, 11 1925), was apparently a MP assigned to overwatch the transfer of some land to our allies in WWI. Our allies (Serbia and Romania) acted like a bunch of asses and behaved badly... and MG HH Bandholtz stood up to them and basicly sided with the defeated Hungarians

In WWII the USA did not go to war with Hungary, the USA was at war with Germany trying to get the germans out of Hungary.

Never, you're thinking of WWI. The US didn't join the Allies in WWI until 1916, I believe.
