i have been suffering from this symptom since i was about 13 years old, i think. i feel dizzy when i sit up or stand up quickly (immediately) after lying down for a while and in worse case, unconscious. last time (about 2 years ago, i think) when i had fever, i slept for about 3 hours. then i woke up to go to toilet. i feel very dizzy and i fell down, unconscious. i had fell down unconscious twice. i thought i have anemia, or low blood pressure. but early this year, i had fever and i tested my blood pressure. it's normal. as for anemia, i haven't a clue. my brother, who is studying medical, says it's just merely lack of sleep. but i doubt it. can anyone identify what i am suffering? it still occurs now. it really bugs me...

It sounds like you are suffering from what is called orthostatic hypotension. This is a problem with many people that is caused by the body's inability to respond to changes in body position. The vessels within your legs are supposed to constrict when you stand up to prevent pooling and allowing the same amount of blood to circulate through your brain. When you have orthostatic hypotension, these vessels do not constrict properly and blood supply is diminished to the brain causing your periods of dizziness and fainting. I recommend you see your healthcare provider and ask them to check your blood pressure while lying, sitting, and standing. If they differ greatly, you are considered to have orthostatic hypotension. In the meantime, you need to drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. You may simply have a case of dehydration. I hope you get better soon.

Well, everyone gets dizzy when you sit up or stand up immediately after lying down. Anemia is not low blood pressure, it is the lack of red blood cells or hemoglobin. If you have anemia, either you don't have many red blood cells or your red blood cells don't carry enough oxygen. A mild case of anemia is what you might be suffering from, but I am no doctor.

Your brother might have a point that you might be suffering because of lack of sleep. Do you eat healthy? Next time, don't sit up or stand up immediately. Gradually get up so that the blood doesn't rush down or up your head to cause your unconsciousness.

Good luck!

I suffer from this too, though I've never actually lost consciousness. The worst that has happened was that my knees have buckled and I had to sit down on the floor til it passed.

I lost a LOT of weight last year, and since then, whenever I get up too quickly from a kneeling, sitting or lying down position, I get light-headed and I temporarily black out (my vision goes black with gold sparkles and I can't see ANYTHING for about 30 seconds and occasionally I get prickles down my arms and over my scalp).

I thought it was changes in blood pressure--the blood rushing from one area to another too fast, or something-- and saw a doctor. He referred me to a heart specialist, who put me on a 24 hour monitor, as well as doing a stress test. Everything came back fine. We also checked my inner ear, thinking this was some form of vertigo, but it's not. They couldn't figure out what it was. I wonder if it may be neurological, but I'm loathe to go back to the doctor for it.

If you're going to get up in the middle of the night, sit up for a minute or so, then stand up fully. That's the only way it works to deal with this.

For both my pregnancies nausea showed up right after I got a positive pg test. Which was when I was a about a month pregnant. My first symptom was no period, then nausea. I would say about two weeks after my missed period is when the morning sickness started.

You need to go to www.webmd.com or some other medical site. Any fainting or dizzy/unconsciousness could be signs of serious problems and you need to be seen by a doctor. I can't imagine your parents haven't already had you evaluated before now!

Have you ever had your blood sugar tested? If you have low blood sugar or high blood sugar at these times it is possible that you could pass out. Otherwise, I think that I would have a thorough physical performed by a doctor and see if there are any factors that you are unaware of.

I get those feelings, too. Stand up too quickly & my vision gets blurred, my head feels light, & sometimes it seems like the room is moving. My mom is a doctor, so here's MY advice:
Drink more liquids. Keep your blood sugar up. Orange juice is GREAT for both of those. Water when you're sick of orange juice. Oh, you can get o.j. with calcium these days, so that's awesome.
Good luck!

Have you ever been checked for "inner ear" disfunction. One of the symptoms of that particular problem is "dizzyness", etcof the type you seem to be having. I know this for a fact because my father had "inner ear" problems and suffered with "dizzyness" all his life. Seek professional help, if you can. My father had to have perscription medication (Anivert) all the time.

sound like orthostatic hypo or hyper tension. which basically means blood pressure either drops or goes up when you go from laying to standing really quickly. the unconcious part is something called "SYNCOPE" . It could be related to many many things. You must see a doctor
