Motrin is generically Ibuprofen...right? so are u allergic to Ibuprofen? if that's the case...then you cant take any Ibuprofen medicine...instead try to take acetaminophen...like Tylenol....i hope i helped u in a way. Besides, oxycodone is the one prescribed by your dentist, take it he will not give that medicine if it will damage ur health.

great! send ME the oxycodone and you take some Tylenol!
seriously, though, you won't get addicted to oxycodone unless he gives you a barrel-full! (and if he does that, be sure and send ME some!! :D )
the other peeps are right. if you are allergic to Motrin, best to stay away from similar products like Advil or Alleve or any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine. But oxycodone is okay! And so is Tylenol. If over-the-counter Tylenol doesn't cut the pain, the dentist can give you some stronger Tylenol.

What type of allergic reactions do you have? Is it a rash? Stomach problem? Or any of the common side effects? Talk to your medical doctor to determine if you are truly allergic to Motrin/ibuprofen, where an allergy test can be performed if you are worried.
There are other strong pain medications such as Tylenol #3 (with codeine), Vicodin, etc. that are not classified as NSAID's where Motrin/Ibuprofen belongs. However, you should find out whether you are just allergic to Motrin or all NSAID's. For most mild pain, you can safely take Tylenol. For your current situation, oxycodone should be ok.

My son is allergic to Motrin, and because of that, he is also allergic to all NSAIDS. Including:
ASA (Asprin) Advil, Ibuprophen, ALL Anti-inflamatories, Pepto Bismol, Alka Selzer.....
Be very careful about what medications you take. There are so many out there that contain active ingredients that are in the same drug class as Motrin aka Ibuprophen.
ALWAYS read the labels and talk to the pharmacists.

Take the Oxycodone. If you follow your dentist's directions, you aren't going to turn into an addict. It's ok. Take the nice Oxycodone; it will help with the pain.
If it wasn't safe to take AS DIRECTED, the dentist coulld not and would not have given it to you.

You could try Alieve or something like that. Unless you have a history of addiction Oxycodone taken as prescribed for a day or two will not lead to addiction.

if you take this as directed and don't abuse it, you won't get addicted. You should take the medication and stop worrying about being addicted to it. It is going to take a lot more than what the dentist gave you to get hooked on the medication.
