Oh gosh yes! I have taught one of my cats to fetch. You can teach them to sit and lay down, but it is a matter of giving them time and using an incentive different than dogs. Dogs do things to please, cats are more into personal interests..lol. My cat LOVED to chase balled up paper, so thats what we started with. She was a maniac about it! If your kitty likes a certain toy, keep at it until she takes the hint. We actually started with more than one paper ball so that we didnt have to get up a million times to get her to chase them. When she brought them back we immediately tossed them again. Its tough, but you can do it! Might try checking the library for books and watching for things your cat seems prone to do for an unusual trick (ie: my puppy jumps up and down on her hind legs like a jackrabbit, so we taught her that when we say "boing boing boing" it relates to that action. As a result, any time we tell her that, BOTH of my dogs jump up and down on their hind legs...lol. My other dog is a quick study when it involves treats!) Good luck!

It's not necessarily a matter of whether cats can be taught tricks as opposed to if a cat wants to learn a trick.

Yes a cat can learn tricks but it is better if you start when they are kittens. Also it depends on the cats personality...if they want to learn great but if not...your just wasting your time! Cats have a VERY shot attention span so you should train them for a few minutes at a time and MAKE IT FUN. Also be paitient....cats can be stubborn.

Yes-my cat will open doors and play fetch, my aunt has a cat that SAYS" meow meow" at the appropriate places if someone sings "old McDonald had a farm". I also saw the pet show at sea world and they had their cats do some awesome tricks.

They can absolutely be taught tricks. My cat fetches small toys when I throw them and I can get her to stand on two legs and sit on my shoulder. Not that impressive I know, but if she can be taught to do these things, I'm sure she can be taught to do more intricate skills.

Yes they can. My 10 month old kitten plays fetch. Ive had other cats do this also. I had a siamese that would sit up and beg when I said paws up. She also played fetch and would ride around on my shoulder without a leash.

Definitely, if they want to learn the tricks. My cat learned to go to the bathroom over a small hole, learned to eat corn on the cob (as I held the cob), learned to jump out of second storey windows, and now he can turn a doorknob when he wants to let himself out and uses his paw to shut the door behind him. Best trick, he lets me know which of the men that I date that he approves of.
