I think Elemenarty school is probably better so kids aren't shy all the time because they're around others.

A major misconception about homeschooling is that the kids don't get good education and don't get social interaction. This is completly false.

Almost every county in the country has a homeschooling organization where kids get together and go out and play intermedial sports or what have you.

With that said, it completly depends on the needs of your children. If your child is reclusive, he/she needs to be with people his his/her age as much as possible. If your child is naturally social and can adapt to not being around kids all the time then go for homeschooling if the benefits are worth it.

Personally I would choose neither. The best of both worlds is private non-religious schools.

I am an elementary school teacher and I think sending your children to an elementary school is the best thing to do. Children need to have socialization with other children. It is very important for children to have friends to play with, work with, have fun with, etc. Also the public school system offers children a wide range of activities. Not only do the get the reading, the writing, the math, etc. They also have the opportunity to go to P.E., music, the library and art. School is so much different now. Yes, the demands on children are high, but teachers are very skilled in giving the children a multidisiplinary approach to learning. It isn't all lecture. It is very hands on and it teaches children that learning can be fun. I hope this is helpful. I am very passionate about my job as you can see. There are a lot of great teachers out there.

Elementary is better.
Only if you keep involved.
Volunteer at your child's school. Be a room parent. Volunteer in the office you get more school information that way.

And be sure to sit with your child every day and go over their homework to be sure that they know what they are doing.

Most importantly keep the lines of communication open with your child. Ask them about their day. Did they have any problems? And do they need any help with their problems? Don't get involved unless there is a safety issue or they say they can't handle it on their own.

Good Luck!

school is not the only way to keep a child from being shy.

For instance, my daughter and I just got home from a pageant contest... that will un-shy you real quick!

I don't know why people think homeschoolers are shy anyway. I am constantly amazed at how many homeschooled kids walk right up to me and start a conversation.

maybe it is the other kids that are anti-social

Elementary school is better. alot of my friends have been home schooled and they wish they were in public school because seeing as how they arent around many children they dont know anyone and when they switch from homeschool to public school later in there education they found it harder to make friends.

It depends on where you live.Usually public schools in big city's such as Atlanta tend to have not so good schools but in smaller places like Panama City the schools aren't so bad.

Either home school or private school, and be sure to interview and do some good research about the school, talk to parents. American public school is scary in some places...
