Futuristic geek answers:

For a boy: Tungsten, from the Periodic Table of Elements. Name was originally "dark steel" or some such in German I think (could be wrong, do correct me if I am). A very hard, resilient metal that is heavier than iron. Nicknames: Wolfram, Wolfie...from the old-school name of the same element.

For a girl: Iridium, or Iridia....again from the Periodic Table. This is a softer, rare-earth type metal, somewhat silver like in appearance, but its shine is iridescent (rainbow colored). Again, this is just off the top of my head, feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Nicknames: Iris, Irid, Ir-ree, some such....

Ok, I'll stop being a hopeless dork now.

Michael is a great name. Very Classic and always in the top ten list. If you want to go a neat way have her maiden name as his middle name. That is an Irish tradition.

Congratulations. Make sure to give that beautiful baby boy a big hug from me.
