"Getting off easy" in the Roman Empire usually meant beheading, which for centuries was considered a quicker and less painful method of execution.

Crucifixion, on the other hand, was reserved for the worst of criminals: traitors against the Roman state. Death by crucifixion was long and painful - death usually took several hours or even a couple of days, and death was brought about by suffocation, as the body slowly tired of raising itself up to catch a breath. Crucifixion was so abhorrent that Roman citizens who had been sentenced to death (like the Apostle Paul, for instance) had the right NOT to be crucified.

So I think it's grossly inaccurate to say that ANYBODY "got off easy with crucifixion," as it was perhaps the most painful method of torture / execution available in the Roman arsenal.

Certainly not! Jesus experienced the most amount of physical pain a human being can endure without being killed before His crucifixion. He was beaten unmercifully, whipped beyond belief, dragged along the streets carrying a heavy cross all the while His gaping wounds poured forth blood and sweat. Not to mention the mental agony which He also endured. He took upon Himself the sins of the entire world past, present and future. He descended into hell after that. What more torture could you ask for?

I believe that Jesus did not get off easily BECAUSE he was a jew. Back then the worst punishments were save for the "Hebrew" race. After all, Rome was trying to keep the Hebrews enslaved as a conqured people.

Also, Jesus was given a harsher sentance BECAUSE he is the son of God and that's what God's plan was....to show that we all must suffer at some time in order to gain Heaven.

He died for our sins and to show people that God is real. Would you have believed he was the son of God if he just had been hung? or stabbed? or died of a Heart attack?

He needed to die a horible death to show that sin is horible and also as an ogject lesson about the "Wages of Sin"

This is why:

Virgin Birth - Was it a preconceived notion?

What is the Imacculate Conception?

An Imacculate Deception?

Did Jesus give up Saturday for us?

Jesus? Christianity? .

If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.

Gods do not die? Do they?

If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?

If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.

If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!

If you swallow this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to swallow it too.

Fool!! Take some time and see "The Passion of The Christ" then ask yourself if he got off easy.

He died the most painfull and demeaning death a man can face for yes...even your sins.

No greater gift can a man give but to lay down his life for another.

Would you do the same? I think not......you'd be on your knees begging and saying anything to save your own skin.

I don't think being tortured and crucified is getting off easy, maybe you should try it and see how easy it is.
