So, why exactly is it Xtians don't practice the rules of the OT? What is the reason Christians are exempt from following OT Laws made by Jehovah, like Levictus 20:9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him. ?

Genuinely curious here. What is the method of reasoning is being used here?

But where exactly in the Bible does it say that the OT pracitices don't count because of Jesus? I want specific verses please.

If these laws don't count then why are you supposed to adhere to the 10 commandments, which were actualy just 10 of many? Why do they count if none of the rules in the OT count because of Jesus?

Coed -

I am not christian and I disagree with most of it as well. I simply wanted to hear about what the Xtian reasoning was for disregarding the rule that Jehovah laid down in the Old Testament as they currently do. The replies I have gotten so far are vague and weak logic. There is no definitive passage in the bible that says Jesus somehow cancels out all of the rules Jehovah gave the Jews in the OT. Supposedly what God says lasts forever anyway. How can he decide to suddenly revoke these "laws" that he made when the logic for them doesn't suddenly become false because of Jesus from the religion's viewpoint. LIke these:

Levictus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

20:9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

Jesus is the New Covenant, the OT laws are the Old Covenant-the Mosaic Covenant.

The key to understanding this issue is knowing that the Old Testament law was given to the nation of Israel, not to Christians. None of the Old Testament law applies to christians today. When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15).

In place of the Old Testament law, christians are under the law of Christ which is to, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments”

The OT, indeed all religious books including the Koran (Islamic Scripture) the Theravada (Buddhist) , the Rig Veda, (Hindu)the Book of Mormon etc. were all written by MEN. All of these men believed that they were Divinely inspired. ALL the books have literally MILLIONS of followers who also truly believe that the scripture that they follow was the literal word of God, and/or of God's chosen Prophet. Many are willing to die for this belief. Throughout history millions have been killed for these beliefs.

Do you believe that the OT or whatever Book YOU follow is the literal Word of God? If so, you must follow all commandments in that Book. Can you be selective? Can you say that THIS commandment is God's word but this one isn't?

What do YOU believe?

In the case of the law you stated, it is still in effect although the penalty prescribed in the Old Testament was for the Jewish people of that time period. Jesus has paid our sin debt and so we no longer have to pay with our lives.

Other Old Testament laws like the ceremonial laws relating to keeping the Sabbath and the animal sacrifices for sins have been fulfilled by the coming of Jesus.

The moral laws that don't have some ceremonial context to them are still in full effect.

Most laws brought down in the Hebrew Bible are required of Jews only.

Gentiles are required to observe the 7 laws of the Noahide Covenant.

Romans 8:1-5
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but walk after the Spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free fron the LAW of sin and death.

FOR WHAT THE LAW COULD NOT DO, IN THAT IT WAS WEAK THROUGH THE FLESH, GOD SENDING HIS OWN SON IN THE LIKENESS OF SINFUL FLESH, AND FOR SIN CONDEMED SIN IN THE FLESH. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

So Jesus fulfilled the law and gave us the law of the Spirit. All Christians who have been baptized in the Holy Ghost are judged by the law of the Spirit (New Test) not the law of the flesh (Old Test).
And Jesus sumed up all the comandments with, Love the Lord your God with all your mind and soul and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Because satan has deceived the world into believing that Jesus did away with the laws when in fact he said he did not come to destroy the laws but to fulfill them. Then he gave an example : in the OT a man sinned in murder if he actually murdered Jesus said you Sin if you think to hate your brother. another example is: in the OT you are a adulter if you were married and had sex with another Jesus said if you look at another woman with lust in your mind then you have SINNED. Jesus changed the law from doing it to thinking of doing it.

Jesus came to fulfill and free us from the bondage of the law which kills. He knew we could not keep the whole law noone could. He knew we would need a saviour and it all reflected the sacrifices the door on the top and the door posts. he was the Lamb that was slain before the foundations of the Earth.

They were only a shadow or lesson.

This is now the age of grace in which Christ has done away with statutes and ordinances, but not the law.

Getting real, it is fairy tale, just that, no different than going to a magician show, and good business.
